Why So Quiet?

March 15th, 1888 — Some Random Corridor

Open to 2-3 others. Let's do the Silencio stamp; aka nobody speaks in this thread

Cee wasn't going anywhere in particular. One of her classes had just ended and she had over an hour before lunchtime. From her classroom, both the Ravenclaw common room and the library were towards the same direction, so she figured she could walk that way and make a decision as she walked. She could do some light studying in either location.

Suddenly, she ran into some students and one of them made quite a show by bringing a finger to his mouth to "tell" her to keep quiet. It was all very confusing and Cee couldn't understand why, but they both seemed pretty alarmed so she did keep quiet.

What was going on?!

Peeves.

It was always Peeves.

She and her companions had encountered the poltergeist two corridors over, where he had cackled—as he often did—before beginning to hurl what Holliday prayed was mud at them. The Ravenclaw had darted around the corner and kept darting, terrified of making any sound that might attract his mischief once more. Holliday rounded the corner again and nearly collided with Miss Gallivan.

Wide-eyed, the fourth year brought a finger to her lips in a very blatant shushing fashion, albeit a silent one.

Though a prefect, Flora feared Peeves. During her first year, she'd managed to get trapped between floors on one of the staircases, only for the blasted poltergeist to make the stairs swing back and forth. To put it short, she'd fled upon having mud flung in their general direction. Wide-eyed and alert, she followed Miss Fudge, her splotches of dirt blending her hairline that separated her brown hair from her peachy face (or at least she hoped it was dirt, and not, you know).

Holding her hand up at the sound of a loud, shrilly laugh from around the corridors, she gave both a warning look. Feeling somewhat brave (or was it desperation?), Flora took a single step across the corridor and pointed towards the lavatory.

They could hide — or at least clean up! — in there.

Upon further exposure to the girls, Cee realized that they smelled. Then, Miss Halliday, the prefect, pointed a the near lavatory and Cee made a certain mental jump. With a feeling of disgust, she pointed at the brown spots on her robes and then at the lavatory.

She still couldn't understand why they couldn't speak, though. Had a toilet been cursed to throw poo at people if they made the slightest sound?

Wide-eyed, Holliday's gaze followed Miss Halliday's finger to the door of the girls' lavatory. She glanced from one older witch to the other before shaking her head vehemently. While it would surely be desirable to hide from the poltergeist, the thought of entering the toilets seemed too likely to end up trapping them in there for her comfort.

Flora shrugged her shoulders and held up her hands in a questioning manner. What other options did they have? Run out into the middle of the students who were lurking elsewhere? Covered in — this? She couldn't handle the embarrassment.

She turned to Miss Gallivan, the eldest of the three girls, and motioned to her robes. Would the quidditch captain be able to clean up the mess with her wand? Or was that outside the domain of her expertise?

It was Cecily's understanding that the mess on the girls' robes was tied to that particular lavatory. That could explain Miss Fudge's reaction about it, as well as the prefect pointing at her robes.

She still couldn't understand just what was going on. Was the lavatory cursed? Was a student there throwing dirt on people? Why couldn't they speak?

Cee pointed at the lavatory and then twisted her wrist in a gesture meant to convey something along the lines of "What's going on there?" With her other hand, she took her wand out of her pocket.

No, no, no — knowing Peeves, if they went into a room with only one exit, they'd be trapped there! Holliday's discomfort was evident on her face, but the fourth year did not dare open her mouth to explain herself, for that would almost surely bring the poltergeist down on them.

Tugging at the obviously wet robes that were sticking to her skin in some areas, she cast a pleading glance at the two Ravenclaws. She needed to get out of these robes or she was going to — thump.

Overwhelmed by the harsh smell, Flora fainted and collapsed on the ground.

Oh, God. The prefect's collapse was a sudden one. Thankfully for her, Cee was used to people being injured and knocked unconscious on the Quidditch pitch, so she kept her composure. It was also thanks to this experience that she easily conjured a stretcher nonverbally. Once Miss Halliday was upon it, Cee pointed towards the direction of the hospital wing, which also happened to be where the two girls had come from.

And now the prefect was unconscious and the route to the Hospital Wing was precisely the route in which peeves lurked, waiting to make everyone’s lives miserable. Why could he not simply be exorcised, removed altogether from the castle’s corridors.

Miserably, Holliday could do little more than nod.

Overall, Flora was fairly useless as she was magically lifted onto a magic stretcher. However, the noise of her shifting prompted the poltergeist to let out a booming laughter from the other end of the corridor. She could totally be of use to this thread, even while unconscious #YayFlora.
