How to Romance: A Book by Handsome

February 13th, 1888 — Gryffindor Dormitories
As the end of the school year neared, the days seemed to be going by much faster. He wasn't sure whether it was because he spent more time in the shadows of his dormitory earlier in the evening or if it was because it just felt that way; nevertheless, he was already in his bed by the time dinner had ended for everyone else. Many of the day's conversations had gotten swept to the back of his mind and pushed aside by the more pressing matters—schoolwork, practical practice, etc.—yet some where still fresh in his head.

He'd been glancing up every now and then, waiting for MacFusty to return to the dorm. He work a small, smug little smile when the other boy finally did enter, and didn't hesitate tossing his book on the bed.

"Been at dinner, I suppose? You didn't notice anyone... acting odd, did you?" he asked, obviously amused.

Munny still wasn't quite sure what he was going to do once he graduated. It was between Quidditch or dragonkeeping. Both exciting careers that he was suited for. He already had some prospects of which team to hop onto when he graduated too. For the past while though, he'd had more than Quidditch and his future on his mind.

The girls in his life seemed to all be acting squirrelly lately. After dinner and another run in with Miss Crush, Munny had headed back to the dorm room. He glanced at his dormmate at the other boys words, his mind going to Miss Crush - who always was a bit squirrelly, even before things had started being a little weird between them - before shrugging. "None more odd than usual? Why do you ask?"

He couldn't tell if MacFusty was bullshitting. It wouldn't surprise him if he wasn't, but it also wouldn't surprise him if he was. He sat up straight and swung his legs over the side of the best, his feet planting firmly against the floor. He monetarily stared at him with raised brows, almost as if he was waiting for his friend to call him out.

"You can't tell me you're that clueless. I know the MacFustys were supposed to be about brawn, not brains," he said, motioning to the quidditch captain's large frame, "but I never thought you were daft," he finished with a teasing grin.

Munny plopped on his bed, unlacing his boots and rose his eyebrow right back at the other boy. There was really a lot of things that Whitledge could be talking about. And it was a mark of his friendship that he wasn't punching the other boys lights out for the implication that the people in his family were stupid. He'd have knocked anyone else out.

Giving a teasing smile back, he jokingly flexed. He'd hit quite a growth spurt the past year and had definitely gotten brawnier. "Miss Crush* is always odd," Munny said with a wry grin. "So I'll assume you mean Miss Woodcroft. She has taken to ignoring me lately which is odd.. I thought we were friends."

*not her actual name obviously, she just isn't played yet XD

Handsome's brows went from stretched up to furrowed inwards at the mention of another girl's name. Was there someone else that he should have been focusing on instead? Obviously MacFusty could just be dealing with another ~fangirl~ at the moment, but he hadn't really heard about it!

"I think Miss Woodcroft is embarrassed about something that happened between the two of you... or you know, her embarrassment was made worse." If MacFusty could get where he was hinting at.

Munny couldn't help an outright laugh at Whitledge's expression change. Though he sobered up at what his friend had to say. He sighed as he placed his boots into their spot under his bed. "Ah, yes. How much has she told you about that?" He was hardly going to go around telling people they'd shared a kiss, that would just be uncomfortable for Miss Woodcroft, he was sure. Girls were held to such higher standards when it came to those things.

"She has been avoiding me ever since and I am at quite a loss as to how to assure her everything is all right," Munny said. "Though I suppose it's understandable." He'd had kisses with a variety of different girls - but he had a very deep assumption that he had quite possibly been Miss Woodcrofts first kiss. She didn't seem the type to go around kissing boys.

"Miss Woodcroft is my friend," he replied with a shrug. "She's a prefect. I'm a prefect. We're prefects. She trusts me enough, I guess—" Or she was just so awful at lying that she couldn't help but blurt out the truth. "—to tell me when something's making her act odd. Girls are always odd, I guess, but she's been acting really odd even since before the holidays." If MacFusty got what he meant. He didn't seem to be.

"Are you... aware of anything about her... emotions?" he asked. He didn't want to betray Miss Woodcroft's trust by being so direct, but at the same time MacFusty didn't seem to understand the language of hints.

So, they talked about him? He had been at least aware that Miss Woodcroft was attracted to him. Almost anyone that spent enough time around girls with could probably see that. He had not been aware that her level of attraction had been enough for her to actually talk to people about it.

"I'm aware she's attracted to me. I didn't realize her crush was at such a level to be talking to you about it." After all, crushes didn't always mean emotions were involved, as far as he had experienced. That made trying to get her to stop avoiding him even more complicated. "Either way, I'd very much like her acquaintanceship back. Should I send her a Valentine?"

#9
Handsome grimaced, not at MacFusty's words, but at the realization of his own faults. "I may have... prodded a bit. Teased her. You know," he admitted with a guilty smile. "Her emotions could just - uh - be delusions that I made her have. Women can be susceptible to those sorts of things. Maybe send her a Valentine. Just try not to give her hope if you don't feel the same way. Girls get far too hopeful, too."

"I have sisters, Whitledge. You're not the only boy in the world with girls in their lives, you know," Munny said with a laugh. He mostly knew what toxic girls were like because of his elder sister. Thank Merlin she had moved to Italy. Munny did not get on well with her at all and really only loved her because she was his sister. He'd Fight anyone else who suggested she was intolerable though. Even so, it was annoying to have Whitledge acting like he was the source for all knowledge about women. Besides, given the other boys mercurial relationship with Sweetie Whitledge, he wasn't exactly a person Munny felt could be listened to when it came to women.

Handsome let out a huff. He knew he wasn't the only one was sisters, but dealing with sisters was definitely not like dealing with a woman — at least assuming there wasn't something creepy going on. "I know, stupid," he jested, waving his hand dismissively. "I guess I'm trying to say that Miss Woodcroft is my friend, too, and I don't want to see her hurt," he replied, sitting silently for a moment before adding in a tease: "I've already had my fair share of 'female drama' for the rest of my life." Or at least until the summer came, which was a tragic reality in itself.

Maybe we should maroon our troublesome sisters on an island somewhere.” His sister was exceptionally insufferable. As for the other things - Munny had been involved with girls that weren’t his sister in a semi-regular degree since his third year. He was a regular teen boy when it came to those things. And those things were none of Handsomes business - none of it was, really. If there was anything to happen, it would be between himself and Miss Woodcroft.

Handsome smirked.

"We could take bets on who cries first — or who will be the last sister standing" he teased, trying to imagine Sweetie stuck somewhere where she couldn't have her fluffy dresses, hot baths, or anything that brought her comfort.

It was a bit sadistic, really. He should stop that.
