May 6th, 1888 - Diagon Alley

Maggie couldn't quite bring herself back to Hogsmeade, not so soon after she'd been all but shoved out of her family's bakery. Luckily, she'd discovered a community bulletin in Diagon Alley so she hadn't needed to go back there to try put up her help wanted signs. Her needs were minimal, only looking to hire on two people, so she hoped she'd be able to fill the positions relatively quickly. She felt confident she could keep up with the baking all her own but that meant she needed someone to work the front end and then was hoping for someone to do general work like cleaning up and hauling the heavier items as well as running any needed errands. Simple enough jobs, surely, but it all depended on who applied.

With a sigh, she stood in front of the board and stared up at the sign she'd just put up, wondering if it was catchy enough amidst all the other things posted there. She hoped so, especially with the grand opening she had planned in just a few weeks time. Well, there was nothing to do for it but wait for people to apply within the shop.

She turned to leave, intent on heading back to the shop, loathe to even have it closed for a small amount of time, only to find herself colliding into a very stout bulk of a man. "Oh, excuse me," she apologized quickly, looking up to the man she'd just run into accidentally.

With his lack of employment, Burt was almost at a loss for what he was destined to do in his life. He had been through so many jobs here and there that never amounted to anything or resulted in a smack to his ego. The spark that continued his search for a job remained in the responsibility to support his family despite their ability to do so for themselves. Accompanied with Ray, he felt the parental role fell onto their shoulders and he needed to do whatever he could to sustain his position.

In complete desperation, he ventured to the community board to see if he could find some solace. Several ads were posted for positions he really had no qualifications for, though he took a few for the hell of it in hopes one may be open to someone of his standing or build. Burt really had no desire to venture back into the constant uncertainty of his previous areas of employment so maybe one of the ads could have yielded something productive and long-lasting. He turned, whilst perusing the ads further, and accidentally bumped into someone else viewing the board.

Initially, he was more so startled than annoyed, which immediately lessened when he realized this person was a woman--a beautiful one, at that. "No, excuse me," he casually stated, "I should be watching where I'm going." Burt felt as though any opportunity to progress in life started with a first impression, and he had no idea what this woman had been doing at the board in the first place so perhaps this was a good start. "Hopefully I didn't interrupt anything. Were you posting something?"

Maggie smiled at the gentleman, realizing he really wasn't much taller than she was though certainly was a lot more broad. He was polite though, so that at least counted for something. Most didn't seem to know how to be polite anymore.

"I was actually," she said with a nod in the direction of the ad she'd just posted, "I've just opened a new bakery here in Diagon Alley." There was obvious pride to her tone and with the way she talked about it. She was certainly proud of her shop even if it was just started.

Burt's ears perked at the mention of a new bakery opening. With his past in market stall management--rather, the lack thereof--he felt he had the experience necessary to assist in the shops development. He knew not what he would be getting in to, nor what the sign even said, but continuously stared at the girl after she finished speaking. Quickly, he opened his mouth and said "A new bakery, huh? Are you looking for any help? Because I have worked in plenty of shops before and know how to get those customers rolling in." The words seemed to trickle from his mouth like a raging waterfall as he stood unaware of how the woman may be perceiving his offer. He was as a point in his life where he needed to progress, so any opportunity that arose was one he was willing to take.

Maggie nodded at his question though paused to give him a good looking over again. He could definitely be of some help in the bakery. Surely he could handle lifting the heavier product needed to keep the bakery running and he was kind enough that he'd do well up front if she had to do things in the back and couldn't man the front end.

"I am, actually," she said with a smile, "It would mostly be helping me with the heavy lifting. Then running the front end from time to time while I'm busy in the back seeing to making new goods. You could even start today if you'd like."

Upon the first portion of her response, Burt lit up with a glimmer of hope. The long wait for a stable career seemed only an arms length away in the moment and the prospects of an actual future laid right before his eyes. Lifting things? No sweat. Running the front end from time to time? As easy as pie. He was great with customers, after all. Starting today? Oh man. What sweet wish had he spoken that granted him such a reward?

"All of that sounds... absolutely wo--" Burt quickly stopped himself to not sound so overly excited. He hadn't the desire to give off such a desperate vibe, but knew fair well that the woman standing before him knew at least somewhat of his predicament. For, why else would a strange man be browsing the bulletin board in his lonesome? He gathered himself with a slight cough into a closed fist and finished with "...absolutely like something that I'd be interested in. I am more than ready to begin today, if you should hire me that is." The man quickly adorned his face with a look akin to that of a puppy in hopes the woman would finalize the proposition.

Smirking with a slightly raised brow, Maggie noted his excitement over the job. She could certainly use that enthusiasm, especially considered the job was far from anything of grandeur. Not many would be thrilled at such a job. "Come with me then," she said with a nod before she began to head back in the direction of the shop, "You can work on a trial basis a few days and if you like it and do well at your job, we can make it a more permanent situation." Though, truth be told, so long as he showed up for work, she'd keep him around as long as he wanted to be there.

Her words filled Burt with hope and desire for he finally had something to look forward to. A position in a bakery, moving some things around, working the front of the shop, and all the while preforming these actions next to a beautiful woman. Could this be a joke? A fairytale? Something out of his reach? Perhaps, though he knew not to screw this opportunity up and would work hard to ensure his position's stability.

"Absolutely, that sounds great and I will do my honest best. You have my word." He sent a smile in Ms. Byrne's direction as he followed her to the place of his future employment.
