Welcome to Charming, where swirling petticoats, the language of flowers, and old-fashioned duels are only the beginning of what is lying underneath…
After a magical attempt on her life in 1877, Queen Victoria launched a crusade against magic that, while tidied up by the Ministry of Magic, saw the Wizarding community exiled to Hogsmeade, previously little more than a crossroad near the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the years that have passed since, Hogsmeade has suffered plagues, fires, and Victorian hypocrisy but is still standing firm.
Thethe year is now 1895. It’s time to join us and immerse yourself in scandal and drama interlaced with magic both light and dark.

Avril knew Ace was still disappointed in her, no matter if he claimed to have 'forgiven' her as some part of a Christmas present (for her, or him, she wasn't sure). She tried, she did, but it didn't seem to matter to her older brother. She tried to not be a disappointment, and tried to prove to him that she was trustworthy.
Nevermind that, she thought, Christmas is just around the corner. With that in mind, and approached Ace. She needed to find presents for her siblings, and she couldn't do that if she couldn't leave. Hopefully she'd be able to leave without asking him soon.
She found him in the living room, feeding little Rosie. She'd slowly come around, and even almost accepted, the baby as part of the family. 'Ace?'

Never had Ace once claimed to be perfect. He was not always as forgiving to some as he was to others, he wasn't always the most patient. He wasn't perfect. But it seemed as though he was expected to be as the head of their household. While he had not thrown her out into the streets, he was still being stubborn regarding her punishment. But he still stood by at least having not thrown her into the streets.
With the holidays coming up, Ace was starting to warm up to the idea of letting his sister have a bit more freedom. Still, the whole point of this was to teach her that she couldn't leave without permission. She was unmarried, and he always needed to know that she was safe and with a chaperone.
Though it was uncommon for a man to feed a baby, he had asked the nanny to teach him in order to bond with the newest addition to their family. It was hard to welcome the little one into their family in the first place when the innocent Rosie had unintentionally lead to their mother's death. He didn't blame the baby, but it was hard to not see her as a reminder of their loss. Looking up at Avril as he was addressed, he was not too surprised by her approach. "Yes?"
Avril sat down next to him. She didn't want to mess up again. She didn't know how to ask him if she could leave to go Christmas shopping. She didn't want him to go with her, it would defeat the purpose of Christmas shopping for her family.
'I would like to leave to go shopping for presents.'
She probably should've had a question in there, somewhere, but her words where already out, and she couldn't take them back, even if she wanted to. Even if it was the wrong way to ask. Hopefully her brother wasn't stupid and realised that was her way of asking.

It wasn’t easy to be the head of house for his siblings. He wasn’t even married yet, and hadn’t had any children of his own. What did he really know about making big decisions? He continuously asked himself this every time he encountered Avril.
There wasn’t a question in there. It seemed that someone wasn’t paying too much attention to her teacher. "Where?" With any luck she would be more confident in this answer than her statement.
Avril wished Ace hadn't answered her not-question question with a question. Atleast he hadn't called her out on not asking to leave.
I'll start in the shops around here, and if I can't find anything for everyone around here... I'll head to Diagon Ally, if that is alright.'
Hopefully between the two places, she'd find something for everyone. If not, she'd have to come home and tell himask him if she could head to Hogsmeade. She really didn't want to have to ask if she could go to some of the shops farther away.

Well, at least this time her statement had a bit of a question to it. He was trying to teach her to take responsibility for herself. That meant informing others of where she was going and making sure they were OK with that.
"Who will be chaperoning you?" OK, it was sort of a test. He wanted to see her progress. Could she actually think this out and have a solid plan without throwing a fit that he was asking questions. She was under his care, he had to know.

Avril knew her older brother would ask such a thing. At least she'd come prepared in that regard. 'Aunt Jade said that she'd go with me.'
Technically she'd asked their aunt prior to asking if she could actually leave. But she knew that Ace would not have let her go without having someone he knew -- maybe not exactly trusted -- be with her. Though, really, she'd only mentioned it to her aunt, and her aunt had actually offered to shop with her.

Ace was torn between frustation due to the fact that she hadn’t asked first, and gratefulness that she at least had thought this through. Well, now Avril had to deal with aunt Jade. That helped his pride. "Alright."

Avril was surprised that he didn't say anything about her asking their aunt before asking him, but was happy that she'd be able to leave the house for a little while without him. She wasn't sure how it'd turn out with Aunt Jade chaperoning her, but at least Ace could rest well knowing she couldn't put a foot out of line without their aunt reprimanding her.
'Excellent.' she said cheerfully. 'Thank you, Ace.' Eh. It was after thought, but she would've said thanks anyway. Probably after she'd gotten up and already left. Bonus points for her remembering before she got up and walked away? She didn't have to come back and apologize for forgetting and say thanks in one sentence this way.
