According to his birth registry this is Brigadier General Abernathy, probably known to most as either Abernathy or 'that odd guy who does the stall at the markets' and better known to those close to him as Monk. He is: a bit of a mess, but a pretty laid-back and fun mess!
He attended 1.5 years of Hogwarts and grew up somewhere in the country, lived in the shadier parts of London as a teenager (83-89), and now lives with roommates in Pennyworth.
His 'occupation', if one could call it that, is as follows: he obsessively grows this weird little rare plant, whose leaves he collects to make himself hallucinogenic tea. He claims that for a period of time after drinking this tea he can see "traces" of magic on people, such as from curses, unresolved spells, previously cast illusions, etc., and can occasionally even spot future ones if they're imminent. Can he actually do this or is he just tripping? Anyone's guess! In any case, he can be regularly found at the Hogsmeade Street Market offering to let you know what magical baggage you've got for a sickle and also casually defrauds Muggles under the same premises to supplement his income.
Things I want for him!
— Roommates in Pennyworth? He's been there since '89 but not necessarily with the same group/in the same house, so could have been established any time after that. These would probably be other men who are not judgey (or if they are judgey are going to be judgey in a fun way like breakfast lectures and not in an unfun way like telling the constables).
— Past coworkers? He had a series of misc working class jobs in London during '85-'86 so could have worked with your character during one of them. He was doing manual labor from '83-'85 so that's technically also a window for overlap but I don't know if anyone plays characters involved in manual drudge labor ;P
— Past hookups? Anytime after '85 works here, though he was in a (bad) relationship from '85-'86 so if something happened in that window it would have to be more of the "one night bad decision" variety and less the ongoing flirtation variety. '87 onward things are more open, though if you wanted something "serious" I'd appreciate past threads to establish if it works <3 He IS above sleeping with people for money but is NOT above sleeping with people for a comfortable place to sleep so. That's the bar. Any gender works here.
— Exes exes? As mentioned^ Monk was in a relationship with/living with someone from 85-86 and it was toxic af. Right now all the details about that partner except for the fact that the relationship sucked are open. I would be interested in one person who was also romantically involved with that person at some point, then later on they and Monk meet up and bond over their shared dislike of their mutual ex. Your character wouldn't have had to be seriously involved with them, a one night thing would work too so long as they walked away with a bad taste in their mouth xD
— Friends/Amiables; Monk's typical crowd probably hangs out at the Hog's Head or the Jinxed Jackrabbit often, might not always be seeking drugs but is certainly not planning to turn them down if you have them, will gamble when they're not broke, will drink even when they are. If that also seems like your crowd, come hang out!
— Known through Family; Monk is a first cousin to Kieran Abernathy and Fallon Hatchitt, but he's not close enough to them that he's trying to get all up in their lives or anything :P That said if you play a Kieran/Fallon connection and think it would be interesting to meet I am up for anything~ Monk also has some unspecified number of older siblings which 1) you could play if desired or 2) could provide connections to other characters if we wanted to invent a reason for Monk and your character to know each other
— Other street vendors? If you typically set up a shop/stall/whatever at the Hogsmeade Market or other similar magical things you probably at least recognize him by sight, let's chat about how they get on <3
— Customers! You don't necessarily have to be seeking out his services (though if you are, he does house calls too by prior arrangement :D ) because if he'd had some tea and is in the market and you wander by he'd probably going to pitch you by telling you how clogged up your magical pores are with all these little curses. Whaaaaaaat you didn't know about all the curses? bro come here, let me help you. ANYWAY I will start open threads but would also start threads like this for anyone who thinks it would be interesting for their character (past/present totally cool with me). Let Monk further your plotlines, he is here to tell your characters things they don't know (and occasionally maybe things that aren't true, shhhh).
And, as always, I am open to whatever other interesting things you can throw at me <3

there's something wretched about this
something so precious about this
don't you agree?
