Appearance: at 5’9 Killian is taller than average which comes in handy because his wife is also rather tall and being shorter than her would be a nightmare. He has slate blue eyes and though his hair is brown his beard can be quite auburn in certain light (#gingerbeard). He dresses finely but not extravagantly, preferring to let the appearance of his wife boast his wealth rather than his own clothing. He is right handed.
History:
1855 | Having been betrothed for several years Thaddeus and Megara wed improbably early. Killian is born when Megara is just 18, rewarding his father’s impatience with a healthy heir.
1858 | Orla is born though Killian is too young to pay much mind.
1859 | His first sign of magic is to send a shelf full of books shooting across the room when he finds out Orla cannot be exchanged for or changed into a little brother.
1860 | ___ is born and Killian finally gets the little brother he’d previously been denied.
1863 | Killian diligently gives him a few years before ultimately deciding this little brother was no more interesting than a little sister.
1866 | He received his invitation to Hogwarts and was eager to go off to school. While shopping for school supplies he tried out no less than 18 wands before one chose him. The bond was instantaneous and he is just as loyal to his wand as it is to him. When he arrives at Hogwarts he is surprised to be sorted into Hufflepuff.
1869 | Killian picks up Arithmancy and Earth Magic, despite the impression that Earth Magic was a soft option it certainly felt preferable to the likes of ghoul studies.
1871 | He excels at most wandwork classes, particularly enjoying the challenge of unspoken spells, though Potions remains a struggle for him. For NEWTS he drops all but DADA, transfiguration, potions, charms and Herbology.
1874 | He graduates with O's in DADA and Charms and E’s for the rest. Immediately after graduating he takes on an internship at St. Mungo’s.
1875 | The completion of his internship and subsequent promotion to full healer is barely noteworthy in the grand scheme of things and probably doesn't even deserve it's own entry in his history. But it happened.
1879 | Tired of the filth and and cacophony of London, Killian transfers to Hogsmeade Hospital and moves to Hogsmeade shortly after.
1880 | Though still marginally young for marriage, he is significantly older than his father when he married, and it's not much of a stretch considering he’s first born and decently established. Having been in contact with Mr. Pendergast even before the end of the school year, he was formally introduced to Emma shortly after her Coming Out Ball. They get along well enough and come September they are engaged.
1881 | They marry on February 2nd and it soon becomes clear that any delusions or illusions they held for each other would quickly dissipate. His wife’s dissatisfaction with domestic life and her interest in trying to influence him is not exactly at the top of his list of concerns. Though they are quite similar in many ways she has a spectacular way of getting under his skin in a way no one else has. He is happy that they are able to conceive so early their marriage and Megara is born before the year ends. He has little chance to regret that their first child is not a boy as Megara Faith MacMillan came several weeks early and has been rather sickly since.
1882 | Megara’s fragile disposition is only worsened after barely surviving a light case of dragonpox. It is distressing for Killian because even as he advances in the ranks as healer it seems there is nothing he can do to improve her overall health.
1883 | In February, Emma’s Lady’s maid comes to him with the fact that Emma had suffered the miscarriage of a pregnancy he had not even known about. While Emma was enraged at the breech in secrecy he never forgot that his wife could and would withhold things from him.
1884 | Between the plague, the quarantine, and the fire Killian can’t help but feel like Hogsmeade is trying to kill them. Killian and Emma make the difficult decision to send Megara away, knowing if she contracted the plague she would stand no chance, be resolving to bring her home if she got ill. Though they did not say it in so many words, the intent was they would give her the best chance they could but if she were to die it would be at home with them. A few days later the quarantine is put into place leaving them trapped inside and Megara completely out of their reach. When the fire strikes it is all they can do to escape with their lives, their home reduced to ash and rubble.
1885 | They rebuild their lives in and after a tense pregnancy, fearing another miscarriage or worse, Emma gives birth to a healthy baby boy. It is several months before Killian accepts and comes to terms that Perseus is not as perfect as he seems. He has the heartwrenching job of trying to convince Emma of the same.
1886 | Though still a bit young for language, they hire a governess who knows sign language to not only teach Perseus to sign but them as well. Killian personally loves sign language and once they have a decent vocabulary built up finds it quite natural to sign with Emma.
1887 | Killian’s professional life advances quite according to plan when he is promoted to Healer-in-Charge. In July his father is killed in the chaos resulting from the escape of several flying tigers at the World's Fair. The morning of his funeral, Emma’s timorous but otherwise normal pregnancy ends early when she gives birth to their stillborn son, Icarus, bringing exactly the pain and loss they’d been fearing. To everyone’s surprise Anthea comes shortly after, revealing that Emma had been carrying twins and possibly explaining why labor had come so early. Killian is torn between the loss of his son and the unexpected joy of a daughter in the wake of that loss.
1888 | Even at a young age the newest member of their family is already proving to be a lively child, matching her unexpected ginger hair. Long at peace with being a bit more hands on than the average father he is quite fond of her already and is troubled by Emma’s apparent distance.
Personality: Shrewd - Hard working - Principled - Reserved - secretly a cinnamon roll when it comes to the people he cares about. His wife has the singular talent of bringing out the worst in him. In the privacy of their home she is adept at reducing him to a sullen and petty man who finds extreme irritation in even the smallest things she does. In all fairness, she is pretty terrible.
