Appearance: Clay is a 5'7" ruggedly handsome guy with a love for earth tones and layers in his outfits. He does have to dress up in fancier clothes when playing violin, but he doesn't mind so much because the ladies love it. He uses his left hand for writing, wand usage and to hold the bow for his violin. He generally keeps his face clean shaven, especially when he's working at the Ballroom, but when he goes on trips with his other boss he let's his face get scruffy and enjoys the freedom that comes with that. His build is a little bulky, with high muscle tone in his arm due to the fact that he carries things a lot when travelling.
History: 1865 | Clayton is born and a happy baby from day one. His older brother, Ray, saved him from crawling off a table by encasing him in a floating bubble once! Clay didn't know this until later, but apparently that was his brothers first use of magic. Clay now takes some pride in the fact that he caused his brother to have that moment, and occasionally (more often than Ray would like) brings it up.
1866 | Only a year old, Clay didn't understand completely the devastation of what happened to his family this year. His mother was pregnant with twins but, upon delivery, she died. Only one of the twins made it as well. The family seemed to spin into chaos then, with his father turning to drinking and his older brothers playing new, parental type roles in his life.
1873 | Clay shows his first sign of magic when he hears lively music out the window. The eight year old boy wanted so badly to be part of the party that was apparently happening on the roof next door that he levitated a ladder to cross the gap between roofs and walked across it. He wasn't able to stay at the party long, though, due to the neighbors contacting his brothers to come fetch him!
1876 | Clay goes to Hogwarts, the same year his brother left. He's sorted into Slytherin, which doesn't shock anyone because he's been a little cunning devil since day one! He was a little sad his brother left, but he never admits to that.
1877 | Clay's father dies in a fight after a night of drinking, which really didn't surprise Clay all that much. He had written his father off as someone who wasn't there for him a long time ago. Still, this gets Clay thinking about his own life and how he doesn't know if he really cares for a Hogwarts education... but he waits it out.
1879 | The summer before Clay's fourth year, he meets an exciting man in Hogsmeade. A travelling apothecarian and botanist, a passionate individual with a taste for adventure and life -- and Clay saw himself in this man. Clay asked him to tell him about the world and soon the man offered Clay a job as his apprentice. Clay would have to drop out of school. but he agreed with no question. This was the kind of life he was meant to live. A life of travel and excitement and discovery. He left on his first adventure with his new boss on September 1st, the same day he would have been going back to school.
1881-1885 | Clay spends these years travelling with his boss, and really just ends up carrying the bags, but he loves the travelling. Due to boredom on their travels, he started practicing pick-pocketing as a bit of a joke but actually got really good at it. His boss also happened to play the violin, and was kind enough to buy one for Clay and start to teach him. Clay picked it up unnaturally fast and practiced constantly, leading him to realize that this was a very, very good way to make some higher class friends....
1886-1888 | Clay starts to spend less time travelling with his apprenticeship and instead joins the ranks of the musicians at The Hogsmeade Ballroom as second Violin. He immediately falls in love with the classy atmosphere and the society people, and starts to integrate himself into their lives with his charm and musical talents.
1888: When the fog started, Clay's brother Cole didn't come home. Clay doesn't bother with stressing out about his brothers whereabouts, they're all individuals after all, but he still worried even though he won't admit it. As annoyig as the fog is, Clay is pretty okay with using the time to make some new friends and impress some new ladies.
Personality: Clay is a dreamer, an adventurer, a romantic and secretly has a heart of gold. He jumps at any opportunity to impress people while maintaining a devil-may-care air all the while. He loves to travel and meet all sorts of people and learn as much as he can. He's a bit of a nerd when it comes to different cultures, and could probably answer any question about any place he's been too -- which is a lot of places! He gets bored easily and likes to entertain himself by learning new things like he did with pick-pocketing, playing the violin and flirting. He likes to test people and himself by trying to find what they're interested in and engaging them in conversation. He is good at reading people, at least the parts that people pretend to be. He is the type of person who acts differently depending what crowd he is in. He enjoys parties, entertaining and anything that keeps his adrenaline running high. Truly, under all his act, he hopes to find some sort of more permanent happiness outside of all his temporary adventures - but he doesn't admit that freely.
Other: Clay is left handed, mentioned above, and that is part of the reason he's such a renowned violinist because he plays differently from tradition.
Sample Roleplay Post: Clay was tired, and he hated being tired. He always felt like sleep was a big waste of his time. There were so many other different things he could have been doing! But, sadly, it was a physical necessity. Still, he generally puts it off for as long as possible, like he was right now. It was well past midnight, and he was sitting on the window frame in his room, violin and bow in hand. He didn't play, because he'd been chastised just the night before for playing in the middle of the night... which really made him want to do it even more but he had decided to be respectful of his brothers and his neighbors wishes, for the moment. Still, he held the violin in place under his chin and the bow above it and behaved as if he was playing, just without touching the bow to the strings. His fingers moved quickly, and he closed his eyes to imagine the music in his mind. It wasn't as fun as actually making the sound, but it was a challenge, and Clay loves challenges.
