June 25th, 1888 - Ollivander's Hogsmeade
Gideon Ollivander

Of all the ridiculous things she'd done over the last two weeks, it would of course be a trip up in her own home that caused the most annoying thing to happen; and that was saying a lot for her. Of course being confined to her house for the foreseeable future was also partially to blame. She'd been one hundred percent caught sneaking in the other night after seeing Edric and though she refused to tell her mother where she'd been, she was not allowed out of the house anymore. She had to keep her bedroom door open so anyone walking by could make sure she was in there and of course the appearance of a new, small owl also wasn't helping. If she wasn't careful her mother would be reading her post next.

That would be catastrophic, but Febby maintained that purchasing the owl was what had kept her out, the unnatural darkness throwing her for a loop; she'd sworn she'd said something about taking a walk after dinner to do so and apparently nobody was paying attention. It was all she could come up with on the fly and she was sticking to it. The gash on her arm was from a tumble on her way home, plain and simple. Now she just had to toe the line and make sure she wasn't as careless anymore.

That was only a small vexation however, as this morning she'd flat out cracked her wand after almost tripping over Andromeda on her way upstairs. Unfortunately her wand had been in her hand at the time and she landed roughly on the corner of a stair with her wand in hand. Of course she couldn't even test it because there was no magic available, but she could see cracks and it felt wrong. All wrong.

It had taken a good twenty minutes of straight up pleading with her mother to get her to take her the next morning and only if Mrs. Harding needed something from the market and was going too. Apparently her mother had forgiven Mrs. H, but not February yet. Well that suited her as Mrs. H was her best accomplice, even when the errand was true this time.

And so the pair packed up for Ollivanders despite the dark and the fog. The streetlamps had been lit as brightly as they could, but it barely seemed to make a dent, and at least the full moon was over so she was still keeping her promise to stay safe. Of course in addition to the dark, now there were toads everywhere, big ass toads, all over the place. It was like a damn obstacle course to get to the wand shop, though honestly Febby was highly amused. Stepping into the shop that was only a little less dusty than the air outside, Febby approached the front desk, setting her wand down on the counter. "Hello?" She called into the apparently empty shop front.

With the awful fog outside, Gideon had pretty much given up on the idea of a customer. There was little that could be done when a wandmaker couldn't make wands, after all. As a result, he hardly spent any time in the front of the shop. It was a bit dusty as a result. But at least it wasn't as awful as the fog was outside. That was dusty. And wrong. There was just something wrong about it to the man lounging in the back with his pure white cat with his different colored eyes.

Adonis had lifted his head up rather unexpectedly several moments before the sound of the front door opening was heard from the back. Gideon's brow rose as the cat looked at him before jumping off of his chest and sauntering out into the front of the shop. The pure white feline jumped up, rather remarkably, up onto the high front counter with ease. He sat down directly in front of the human's wand and gazed at her with one yellow eye and one pale blue. Adonis opened his mouth and as if on cue..

"Hello," Gideon greeted from the back a few moments before stepping out of the darkness. A lopsided sort of grin bordering on smirk was on his features as he came out of the shadows. The man's own hazel eyes were on the young woman, appreciating what beauty he could note even in the darkness of his shop. Even with the lamplights outside at their height, his own few lamps within his shop still managed to brighten it more than what outside was like.

"Sorry," he started to say, "I haven't had many customers of late. How can I be of assistance?" Adonis settled onto his belly, paws crossed over one another on top of her wand, and began purring quite loudly.

Febby didn't have to wait long to be greeted, but she was a little surprised by the fact that it was buy a beautiful white cat and not an actual person. Oh, he was right behind the cat. Since the the cat greeted her first, and Febby was not immune to a cute kitty, she leaned in to pet him gently and then addressed the gentleman who followed.

"I do suppose that's understandable given the circumstances." She turned a cheeky smile toward who she presumed was a Mr. Ollivander, though she didn't know which one. "He's very handsome, look at those eyes." She said of the cat, fingers gently scratching behind his ears. "He's also go his paws on my likely cracked wand, I took an unfortunate tumble this morning." Febs admitted, grin turning a little sheepish as she'd rather not admit exactly what happened.

Gideon watched the lovely brunette give Adonis the attention the cat had come out for. Not that Gideon hadn't been giving the cat attention but it had beat him out front for the sole purpose of meeting someone new. The cat had shown long ago to have a penchant for company and was often the first to the counter whenever the door opened. His purring only seemed to intensify as the girl scratched behind his ears, soaking up the attention and affection her was receiving.

Gideon, on the other hand, chuckled at the feline before turning his attention to the wand she spoke of. He slid it easily enough from under the cat's paws and lifted it up to his face so he could inspect it further. There was certainly quite the crack down the wand and his brow furrowed at the sight. "Must have hit it pretty hard," he said as he turned it over in his fingers to continue inspecting it. It didn't take long before he was pulling out a cloth to give it a good wiping down and handing it back to her. "Unfortunately, there's little I can do with it for the time being," he answered simply, "If it were working in this fog, it wouldn't be doing so very well. It'll likely backfire if you are able to use it until that crack can be fixed."

There was no way she was going to completely admit what happened, she hadn't even admitted it to Edric fully and likely never would. It was likely that one of her sisters would blab eventually, or August even, but she would never admit to it herself. Never.

Febby turned her attention between the cat and Mr. Ollivander, talking first again to the cat, using that voice people tended to use when addressing cute animals or small children. "Yes well, my own cat was involved." That was as much information as she was giving. She sighed at his appraisal of the situation.

She eyed the wandmaker in careful consideration, using a normal voice agian. "Do you think it can be mended, or will I need a whole new one?" She was rather attached to her current one. This fog was messing with a lot of things in her life and it seriously needed to go!

Adonis continued to purr as spoke directly to him. His eyes had been closed but he opened them as if he knew she was speaking about another of his kind. He even gave her a rather pointed look as if he could hardly believe she would blame it on a cat. They were clearly the superior being in the situation after all. At least, as Gideon watched his own cat, he though to himself that that was surely what the feline was saying.

Still holding the wand out to her, Gideon gave a small shrug. "There's no real knowing until I can actually test it," he said simply, "If the crack did any damage to your core, you'll like need a new wand. But if it's just a superficial crack on the surface, I can have it mended in a matter of minutes." But.. as he'd said already, he wouldn't actually know how deep the damage was until he could actually test it for himself. "You'll have to come back after the fog is gone," he said with a smile. He could possible send it off to Gervaise but...he'd rather not even mention such an option.

Febby pulled a face and sighed. "That's most unfortunate." if course it could have been more inconvenient, if magic were working properly, but this was still incredibly annoying, all because she'd fallen! Twice in a matter of days no less. Certainly she wasn't falling for Edric this fast- not literally anyway! He may have had her all tripped up emotionally, but this was about thing entirely.

"This fog is highly inconvenient, did you see the toads outside?" They were everywhere and enormous!

"Sorry," Gideon offered. There was little that could be done by it. But, luckily for her, with the fog she couldn't even do magic. And he truly did feel that if it was just a superficial crack, he could have it fixed for her quite quickly. If she did need a new wand, there were plenty she could try out or he could attempt to salvage what was in her wand. That would take a bit longer but it could possibly be done.

Then she mention the toads and he groaned. "Unfortunately, one of them became far more acquainted with me that I'd have preferred," he answered with a sigh. He settled on a stool located behind the counter and watched as Adonis looked over at him before looking back to the girl, clearly deciding he liked her attentions more than what Gideon would give him. "One fell behind me when I was stringing up the lanterns outside and frightened that scary beast back in here," he said motioning to the traitor of a cat, "Then one landed right on my head. Knocked me to the ground. The bastard was heavy."

"No, no it's alright, there's nothing to be done about it right now." Hopefully it was an easy mend, otherwise she'd feel like a first year all over again, trying out wands... ten years later. Wouldn't that be hilarious.

Apparently the toads were not just in the way but an actual nuisance. "No sir!" The thought of the toads falling from above made her wish she'd brought a parasol! Of course with no sun, that wasn't strictly necessary! "Aww must've scared the poor baby." She cooed at the cat, scratching the sides of his cheeks with both hands.

"I do hope you're quite alright, we can't be without a wandmaker in town. What a travesty that would be!" She passed him a charming smile and heard Mrs. H cough from her seat by the window.

Gideon couldn't help but to roll his eyes at the way his cat seemed to preen at the ministrations of the young woman, especially when she went back to talk to him in that way people did. Damned cat had better luck with the ladies than he did. At least, ladies of the respectable sort.

"I'm quite alright," he answered, glancing to the woman sitting nearby. He turned back to the young woman at the counter with a smirk. "So no fear, miss, I shan't be leaving Hogsmeade without a proper wandmaker any time soon," he added, "Especially not if I'm guaranteed a return visit from a pretty brunette."

"Thank goodness," Normally Febby would have blushed a little at the compliment, and though she did still pass him a girlish smile, it wasn't exaggerated as it once would have been. Now that was something new and she had no doubts she could figure out why. She didn't doubt his sincerity either (though maybe she should have, but what girl didn't like getting a compliment?), it didn't quite hit home as hard as it used to. She blamed Edric.

Casting a look at Mrs. H. over her shoulder, Febby gave the sweet kitty on the counter one last pet. "Well, aren't you sweet? Should I leave this with you or just wait and come back another time?" She wondered if she could send it to London to have it looked at, but supposed it really wasn't that pressing. It wasn't like she could get to London any time soon and if she could, getting her wand fixed was not first on her list of things to do, either.

Well that compliment hadn't had the desired effect. Gideon didn't let it show though. Adonis, however, turned to him and it almost felt as if the damned cat were laughing at him as he purred even louder when the girl gave even more attention to him. Damned cat.

He shrugged at her though. "Entirely up to you," he said, "If it's here, I'll work on it as soon as the fog lifts. I don't know that I'd mess with mending the crack just yet though. If there is damage to the core, I'd just have to crack it open again and that could seriously wear down the wood. Then you risk more damage later."

He was right, of course he was right, he was the expert after all! The last thing she needed was to have everything get worse because it was tinkered with. She really would be loathe to need a new one. "Of course, I trust your expertise, I would be silly not to." Febs fluttered her lashes playfully at him. Just because she was currently entangled didn't mean she was oblivious to a handsome face willing to flirt with her.

"I suppose it's no emergency, not worth sending to London. I think it would be safer here with you than in my own hands, clearly." She was the one who'd cracked it after all. "It wouldn't be too much of an imposition would it?" Honestly Febs had no idea how long the wand would be in his possession at this point, but it wasn't doing her any good anyway, it may as well be where it could get fixed quickly should the fog leave as mysteriously as it arrived.

Gideon winced at the mention of sending it to London. The idea of a customer, a particularly pretty one, going to his brother for aid was not something he was all that fond of. Not that she'd have a clue of the rivalry. She sounded like she'd talked herself out of the idea but to be safe he said, "I know owls ate still getting through the fog but with that crack, you certainly risk irreparable damage sending it so far in questionable conditions."

Hoping that would be enough to dissuade her, he shook his head slightly and smiled. "No imposition at all," He responded easily enough, "I'll set it aside in the back right on my work table where i can't miss it."

"Right again," Feb pursed her lips, trying to hid a knowing smile. "I am rather fond of it, I would hate to need a new one." A wand was like an extension of the witch, needing a new one would be like losing a limb at this point. It would never fit the same way. "Safest here then. I really do appreciate it, Mr. Ollivander." She took a shot in the dark, though really who else would be here? She supposed they did have a shopkeeper at some point.

Febs turned her attention back to the cat, but eyed his owner slyly. "And handsome kitty whose name is?" She couldn't resist petting him a little bit more, he was gorgeous with those mismatched eyes. Andromeda had stunning green eyes, which was part of why Febby had picked her all those years ago.

Gideon gave her a reassuring sort of smile, it even widened some when she referred to him as Mr. Ollivander. He supposed it was pretty obvious really. Who else would be in a wand shop when there was no magic to be had anywhere? "An Ollivander is always please to talk of wands," he said with a nod, "Gideon Ollivander, at your service." May as well make sure she knew which brother she was talking to.

In the meantime, he found a quill under the counter and dipped it in an inkpot after pulling an empty box out that he could keep the wand in safely. "That," he said, motioning to the cat she was so enthrall with, "Is Adonis. If I didn't know any better, I'm certain he thought he ran the place." The cat's tail flicked at the words but his purring only continued while the lady pet him.

"And what name should I put on this box," he said, looking to the girl again, "Wouldn't want to be giving the wand to the wrong, pretty brunette after all." Not that he'd confuse her with someone else, surely, but it was the best way at getting her name.
