Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

When You Write Letters and You Make Friends
#1
Sweetie had been writing to Mr. Berkwood for several months on a professional capacity. She had to get creative in her letters as her project was sensitive, as was with all of her work projects, and she had to run all of her letters by her superiors before sending them off to make sure nothing was too sensitive. She was working on a project that primarily required her own expertise, but did need the lens of an outside opinion and while some of her colleagues could have been good fits, most of them were busy and Mr. Berkwood was a potioneer, which was the field that she needed help in. Her potion skills weren't necessary lacking, but they weren't the professional capacity that a proper potioneer was at.

At first the mental puzzle was interesting the first few times, then the extra work began to grow tiresome. Gratefully, other topics regarding research outside of the main project began to come up, and they began discussing research for several months after the project had ended. Mr. Berkwood has proven to be incredibly intelligent in his field, along with several other interests. Sweetie began mentioning her own interest in transfiguration and eventually discussed The Society for the Transfiguration Arts that she had been a member of for several years. Today was finally the day that they were going to meet face to face, at said society, as he was her official guest for the day. If he would like, he could become a member himself, should he be interested.

Waiting outside the doors to the society with Mrs. Patton, she was a few minutes early. They were quietly discussing various points of interest in the society that might be interesting for first sights in the building itself. Sweetie had been in there earlier in the day, and hoped that too much hadn't been changed, with the ever-changing decor that was featured as a way of practice and a staple draw to stand out from other societies and clubs. To show that transfiguration is indeed taken seriously ask the core value, not simply sitting around eating biscuits and discussing the latest gossip.

Harry had a well-deserved reputation for being single-minded in his interests. Potions were his first and best love, it was unarguably true. That said, he did have other interests--ones he even remembered to give attention to on occasion, if one could believe it. Transfiguration had been the one subject at school that Harry had been interested enough in that he'd gotten an O on his NEWTs without needing to connect it in his mind to Potions.

He was always pleased to lend his expertise to anyone who came looking for it--knowledge, Harry thought, ought to always be a thing shared--and he'd already had a decent respect for Miss Whitledge, though he couldn't recall having ever personally spoken to her before their correspondence. Her venture into politics had been unsuccessful, but Harry personally thought that the effort was impressive nonetheless. It probably helped that his own views aligned with the ones she'd campaigned on. And he did love a correspondence with a fellow academic when he could get it.

So, it was a mixture of curiosities that brought him to the Society for the Transfiguration Arts. Arriving at the appointed time, Harry was a little relieved to recognize Miss Whitledge on his approach. "Miss Whitledge," he greeted.

While Sweetie hadn't made herself too many allies during her campaign run, she had earned the respect of several members of the community who had never known her name before these events had taken place. Before that, she was a quiet Ministry employee that tried to ignore the drama of her past with her brother, that went largely ignored by society at large outside of the town gossip. Now she had made a small mark for women's and part-being's rights, something she still took an interest in, though not to the greater extent that her best friend did. She still went to the occasional rally but wasn't on the front lines. Perhaps she would try for another election down the road, make some more social connections.

Sweetie had received word of mouth to hear about Mr. Berkwood from several colleagues before finally reaching out with her own letter. That seemed to be how it went when reaching across fields in the work of research and exchanging ideas and expanding one's knowledge. She remembered having to learn about the history of magical music for a certain spell work in her department. That was an odd research project. People had to receive various vague and mysterious letters from her on that topic.

Hearing her address, she glanced over and assumed that it was the gentleman from her correspondents. "Mr. Berkwood. It is a pleasure to put a face to the name. May I introduce you to my mentor and friend, Mrs. Patton."
