Welcome to Charming, where swirling petticoats, the language of flowers, and old-fashioned duels are only the beginning of what is lying underneath…
After a magical attempt on her life in 1877, Queen Victoria launched a crusade against magic that, while tidied up by the Ministry of Magic, saw the Wizarding community exiled to Hogsmeade, previously little more than a crossroad near the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the years that have passed since, Hogsmeade has suffered plagues, fires, and Victorian hypocrisy but is still standing firm.
Thethe year is now 1895. It’s time to join us and immerse yourself in scandal and drama interlaced with magic both light and dark.

Did You Know?
Did you know? Jewelry of jet was the haute jewelry of the Victorian era. — Fallin
Well, at least she did not feel quite so unqualified, having now gotten one duel under her belt. Dido likely appeared unqualified, though, as she stoppe mid-sentence twice during the rules, each time hit by an overpowering wave of deja vu. What a nuisance! Fortunately, she reminded herself, both youngsters were among her pupils. Surely they were used to her oddities by now!
"Mr. Glynn, I believe you are first," Dido concluded after a rather meandering introduction. "Whenever you're ready."

After the rules and the formalities, Cad didn't feel any less nervous than he had before; he would have much rather gone second because he could have just used a shield charm. Ah, well, too late now. With a measured breath, he dipped into a polite bow to his Ms. Bythesea before straightening, tugging his wand free.
"Expelliarmus!" A classic, reliable opener. Hopefully it would actually unarm his opponent.
A frantic excitement carried Hettie into position in the ring, added an indelicate bounce to her curtsy. Dueling with her club had quickly become the best part of any school-day. Of course she preferred an offensive stance-- in dueling as in all things-- but she would take the defense if it meant the chance to face a new opponent.
"Protego!" Hettie answered his disarming charm with an eager flick of the wrist.
Oh, she thought to herself, the corners of her lips tugging, briefly, into a small frown of disappointment at the spells used. This would not be as interesting as the Misses Potts and Burroughs, Dido realized. But this was not about her, this was about Mr. Glynn and Miss Bythesea, and Dido shook off her feelings (literally, she gave her shoulders a little shake) and plastered a broad smile on her diminutive features.
"Well done, Miss Bythesea—first point!" Dido affirmed brightly. The shild had made easy work of the disarming spell, though she was sure Mr. Chang's efforts, too, would have been very well done had they borne fruit. "Please start our next round, Dear."

Hettie cracked an eager grin, which lit her huge, round eyes with a pixie's mischief. Her turn-- and it was time to play. She flicked her wand across her view of Mr. Glynn, then up to the ceiling overhead, throwing a spell which she had always wanted to use to prank someone in the halls. She'd never been bold enough, it being a difficult effect to pass off as anyone else's fault. Her hope was to bind the spectral ropes of her magic about her opponent's ankle and flip him upside-down, suspending him in midair. It would, she figured, be an inconvenient position to cast from.
Oh no. Cad did not like the spell she cast nor the way she was looking at him; she looked like she was trying to cause trouble, and well... he really wasn't about that. "Ebublio!" Cad cast in turn, hoping to trap her, and her spell, inside an impenetrable bubble.
The spells were certainly more interesting, this time, but the outcome was quite similar, seeing the Gryffindor come out on top.
"Five points to Gryffindor!" Dido announced briefly before quite visibly realizing she had forgotten an important detail: "That is, congratulations to Miss Bythesea; you will be progressing to the next round of our tournament."
There. Dido had survived, and so had both students—not a bad day's work.
