What Am I Doing?

Tuni,

I think I've lost my mind! I was out yesterday with one of the household maids in tow when she was suddenly and very shockingly turned into a piglet! Some rogue idiot had the nerve to transfigure her randomly in the street! An auror was called in and he was mostly useless, Lydia (as a piglet) ran off and I had to chase her down with him in tow and I punched him! He grabbed my wrist, told me to stop chasing her and I reacted without thinking!

We managed to track her down, though the cooperation was minimal, I did managed to catch her, then I was caught by the creep who changed Lydia. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't been a little scared, but I was unharmed in the end, with a little help from Mr. Umbridge. Honestly though! Poor Lydia is a mess and though the culprit was apprehended, I still can't believe that all happened! It was quite the adventure I don't think I'd like to repeat any time soon!

Please tell me your life is less exciting but not totally boring, I feel as though it's been so long since I've seen you!

Febby,

Would you believe me if I told you I fancied myself smitten with a particular Quidditch player only to have my heart broken then for it to be mended by a carefree dance in the street with the same Quidditch player? Then I was invited to his season opener by him and admitted to him I was thinking of taking a job at the museum? If not, then unfortunately, my life is quite boring in comparison to what you've been through!

You punched an auror!? How is your hand? I certainly hope he wasn't too cross with you for it. Clearly the situation was most out of the ordinary or you would have never done such a thing. At least, I don't think you would. Would you?

But the next more important question is: was he attractive? Aside from being useless, hopefully he has some other redeeming qualities. Because if he's useless and ugly then I don't know how he'll quite make it in the world.

Fondly,
Tuni

Tuni,

Oh my! We are clearly very out of the loop in one another's lives! Which quidditch player? What happened? I need drama that is not my own.

Yes, I punched him! And it's alright, it was my left hand, so not dominant. I've got a little bruise across my knuckles, but still! He deserved it. I have been known to punch August here and there, but never an auror!

Why is that the most important question? He was fairly useless until the very end when he arrested the creep. But yes, he's handsome, strong jaw, nice eyes, but he's got a perpetual scowl, not sure it really makes a difference!

Febby,

Oh dear I wouldn't even know where to start! Mr. Rufus Bixby. He plays for Puddlemere. We met quite at random and then seemed to continue doing so. We shared a few letters here and there and then before I know it he's being linked to several other woman via Witch Weekly. Of course I know not to put too much stock into what that magazine has to say but I was quite clearly being ruled by my heart and not my head for once. It.. didn't end well initially. Our letters got rather heated and when it became clear that the feelings I had for him couldn't actually be reciprocated cause he clearly isn't at a point in his life to take a wife, I told him perhaps it was best to cut ties. It was truly awful, Febby. Can you believe I actually cried after?

And then I saw him again at the May Day Festival in London. We hardly spoke a word and simply danced. It was perhaps the happiest time of my life even if it wasn't bound to last. We simply enjoyed the time and then went our separate ways. Then he sent a letter asking me to go to their season opener gala and sent tickets to the game. And now..well I don't really know what now.

But enough of me! I still cannot believe you punched and auror! At least he'll know not to cross you in the future. Always a good thing to put them in their place from the get go lest they think they can walk all over you.

And of course it's important. When one has a knight in shining armor come to them you want them to be handsome at least. It would be quite awful for a savior to look like a male version of a hag or something. Are you sure everything turned out alright though? It doesn't sound as if the whole story as been told. What else happened with this auror of yours?

Tuni

Tuni,

Hmm, sounds familiar, but I'm not sure from where.  But oh, that sounds like it was quite the emotional ride. Why are they always so infuriatingly charming one minute and then well, having you wanting to punch them the next? That sounds very confusing indeed, romantic, but confusing. Did you go to the match, how did it go?

He deserved it, serves him right for treating me like some damsel in distress when I could clearly handle myself. If I'm being honest though, I don't think he's learned his lesson. Mother demanded I take a basket of treats to his office tomorrow in apologies, which is ridiculous, but I suppose I should thank him for saving my bacon in the end. I'll let you know how it goes!

Tuni,

Fuck it never mind. He's an insufferable, arrogant, patronizing twat. I brought the cookies like Ma had suggested, even volunteered when Lydia said she would go. So Mrs. H. and I got trotting all the way down there, the banter starts off great, you know how I like good banter. And the next thing I know he's pretty much accusing me of being a child incapable of impulse control. I cannot even believe I bothered to go all the way down there.

The nerve!

I apologize, I asked you about yourself in my last letter and didn't even let you answer! This concludes  my rant about how idiotic men are, no matter how charming or handsome they may be, they're all terrible.

Febby,

Well then, you've clearly been busy! I'm not really even sure what to say if I'm being honest. Do you plan to see him again? Or are you thinking it's best to avoid him? Did you punch him again? I imagine he'd probably rather not see you if you did. It's surely a blow to the ego to be punched twice by the same woman. How's your hand, by the way?

And there really isn't much more to tell you of Mr. Bixby. I may have given him a kiss on the cheek after our dance at the gala. For good luck, of course. But I haven't seen him really since. We were able to share one more dance at the Coming Out Ball but that was all before father deemed we needed to be headed home. So really it's just been a few letters here and there. The Quidditch season is in full swing after all so I'm certain he's rather busy and I've been spending a lot of time at the museum. I'm thinking of applying to be a curator there. What do you think? Forget the season this summer and just work?

Tuni,

I had every intention of promptly forgetting he existed, until a letter came this afternoon from him! Unbelievable, that man is incredibly frustrating. As if he hadn't just insulted me, now he's asking for Mrs. H's cookie recipe! I cannot believe him.

Oh my! How scandalous, good for you girl! Proud of you for going for it, also for the museum idea. I think you would really enjoy it. If this season is another failure I'm going to find something for myself. I cannot stand this ridiculous season thing any longer, there has to be some other way to occupy my time that has some kind of meaning to it.

Febby,

And did you give it to him? It honestly sounds like an excuse to simply talk to you though. Are you sure you're quite done with him? He sounds to me to be well on his way to being smitten. You could perhaps get him wrapped around your finger and take you on some grand adventures that way!

And I really am thinking I'll apply at the museum. It's doubtful I ever get to go on any of my own grand adventures so why not live vicariously through the exhibits there? And if something were to work out with Mr. Bixby, which he doesn't think it can because of his career as a Quidditch player, at least we could have some added income that way. I just don't know though. I've see how things have been for Magnus and how my father tries to sneak funds to him on the sly because he worries they don't have enough. I'd hate to see my life in such a way. Just another charity case for my father.

Fondly,
Tuni

Tuni,

I certainly did not. He doesn't deserve it, not after the way he's treated me. If anything I'd like to wrap my hands around his neck... No. Just no, I'm quite done with him. He's sent me at least three letters today, he does not know how to take a hint! I should just stop responding, I don't even know why I bother.

Have you honestly talked with Mr. Bixby about long term plans? I didn't know this was so serious, Tuni are you sure? I will not try to stop you, obviously and I will be happy for you and support you no matter what you choose to do, I just hope you're thinking it through. I'm learning the hard way what happens when you don't; don't be like me.

Febby,

I think the lady doth protest too much. You've still responded to his letters so that's saying something. I bet you'll see him again. Put a knut on it?

Well..yes and no. When It became apparent I had started forming those pesky things called feelings and we had it out, he made a point of telling me he wasn't in a position to take a wife. To which I did agree but I also said it was probably best to cut ties becuase I couldn't really help the feelings I was having. Clearly that has gone over well. I'm really not sure. Perhaps he'll forget me during the season while he's busy. Who knows.

Tuni

Tuni,

You're terrible to me. He wrote again today and I did not, and will not reply. I'm not encouraging anything so I'll take that bet.

Pesky feelings, they always cause so much trouble. They're unavoidable I think and if they're genuine, then maybe it's a discussion you should have. I doubt he'll forget you, it seems like you've got a history now.  If you think it's worth fighting for you should make a point to reach out. I know I'm the very last person to be giving advice on this matter, but you know I don't believe in waiting around for men to make the first move; you'll die of old age before they make up their minds.

Febby,

A knut it is. And you best be honest with me Miss February Lynch. I will find out if you see him again.

And I guess I'll wait and see. I'm sure my father will be livid once he finds out I'm seeking employment. Maybe I should focus on that first instead of getting married. One battle at a time I suppose!

Tuni,

So far so good, he summoned me down to the ministry again today and I flat out refused. Though I fear the pigheaded pinhead will likely show up sooner or later. Does our bet count if he finds me first?

Let's tackle the employment thing together. I will start looking if you do. It is best to fight one battle at a time, I think. The ones worth fighting anyway, lest we end up in a war with our parents we just can't win. I think I might apply to see if the Department of Magical Games and Sports needs a reliable secretary. Otherwise I don't know what else to go for. I suppose I could try the library in London, what do you think?

Febby,

Of course it still counts! Unless you blatantly ignore him and don't say a word. Then I suppose you'll be safe. But I know you. You can't not have the last word so surely words will be had. I can already feel that knut in my purse!

London! Yes, the library! Then we can commute together. It is clearly the ideal option! We can chat while we head to work together and then can discuss what happened on the way home!

June 13th, 1888, late evening

Tuni,

I've enclosed your knut. That bastard showed up on my doorstep today! He just does not know how to take no for an answer! I slammed the door in his face, but Lydia let him in. He had the nerve to plop himself right on my blanket out in the garden and make himself very much at home, disturbing my reading. All so I could re-identify the creep that grabbed me after chasing down Lydia-as-a-pig.

Still, that pompous ass just interrupted my day and argued with me, so I punched him again. Now I have bruised knuckles on both hands from that hard head of his... and it was honestly one of the most frustrating interactions of my entire life! I felt better after punching him again though. It was so confusing, he was less irritating and more cooperative after that, it was like I reset us back to square one? I really don't understand.

Anywho, we could still commute together if I worked at the ministry, though he works there, that's probably not the best choice. I refused to let him impact my choice though. I think Magical Games and Sports would be so much fun to work in, just think of all the quidditch players I could see on a daily basis!
