By a combination of birth and marriages Sibylla is closely related to the Crabbes, Lovegoods, Prewetts, Potters and Longbottoms.
Appearance: Standing at 5’3 Sibylla is blonde, petite and every inch the Victorian doll. Or rather, she was, before the best years of her life were blighted by an indifferent husband and childbirth. These days she is still attractive, though it is tinged with a bitterness that has rather taken the sheen off. She has blue-grey eyes, a clear complexion and is right handed.
History:
1859: Sibylla is born as the first and only child of parents whose disappointment at failing to produce a son is soon assuaged when they die in a carriage accident three months later. Sibylla is subsequently raised by her aunt and uncle, whose son Julian is nearly ten years her senior, and with whom she develops a friendship that lasts until his death some years later, rather than anything approximating a sibling relationship.
1859-1870: Thus passes a solitary childhood that has little to engage readers. Sibylla displays magic at the age of seven and no one notices but the nanny, who is surprised to find herself with a different hair colour, but one her precocious charge thinks suits her better. She receives her Hogwarts letter and spends the summer trying to work out how one speaks to other children. Her only friend is Julian who, so much older than her, has already graduated from Hogwarts and whose only piece of advice is to smile more.
1870-1877: Sibylla is sorted into Hufflepuff and seven long, tedious years pass. She is not an especially gifted student, lacking a capacity for academic rigour but she does learn more about the ways of society than books could teach. Surrounded by her peers for the first time Sibylla learns how to ingratiate herself, how to notice when someone is a friend or rival, becomes as adept at deportment and etiquette as it is possible to be and she grows to become the perfect example of Victorian womanhood.
Her debut, when it eventually comes, is overshadowed by Julian's premature death. Subsequently she is fonder of Abraxas than any other distant relation.
1879: A marriage is arranged for her by her uncle and Sibylla very quickly finds herself the wife of Robert Rowle. He is a Ministry man of impeccable background with a family that could not be more respectable if they were all made of well-ordered stone. As such Sibylla feels pleasant sense of surety and calm whenever she is with Robert and his family but she never feels from any of them anything that could be identified as warmth.
1880: Martial relations are regimented enough that Sibylla has her first child quickly. Alas, a girl, but still, a promising sign of things to come. Plus a girl means they must try again and perhaps, she wonders, her husband might actually express some affection towards her? Their relationship is perfectly nice. He is courteous, kind and she couldn't fault his manners, but sometimes it would be a boost to feel he genuinely wanted to be near her.
1882: Another girl is born. Robert status? Still amiably indifferent.
1884: Finally, after years of very polite trying, the Rowles are blessed with a son and heir. Robert status? Immediately withdraws and never enters her bed again.
1885-1892: Despite their lack of passion for their marriage it grows into a successful one - neither Robert or Sibylla ever question their places in the world and they become stalwarts of the social scene. Not especially interesting ones perhaps but certainly a couple to be emulated and admired.
1893: Robert breaks.
1894: Since the incident in his study, the first time Sibylla has seen him express an emotion that could not be described with the precursor mild, she has sensed a change in her world. Her marriage, certainly, seems different but Robert's brothers and sisters have altered too. Perhaps they're all deep in grief about their father? She couldn't say she really misses the old man, but then, as ever, she's not really and truly part of the family, is she?
Personality: Loyal, solitary, secretive, reserved, needy.
Age: 30ish.
