Welcome to Charming, where swirling petticoats, the language of flowers, and old-fashioned duels are only the beginning of what is lying underneath…
After a magical attempt on her life in 1877, Queen Victoria launched a crusade against magic that, while tidied up by the Ministry of Magic, saw the Wizarding community exiled to Hogsmeade, previously little more than a crossroad near the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the years that have passed since, Hogsmeade has suffered plagues, fires, and Victorian hypocrisy but is still standing firm.
Thethe year is now 1895. It’s time to join us and immerse yourself in scandal and drama interlaced with magic both light and dark.

Did you know? Jewelry of jet was the haute jewelry of the Victorian era. — Fallin
Are YOU decorating for the Halloween Decoration Contest in October 1893? Come tell us which residences/businesses are participating and a little about their decorations! (If you would like to be in consideration for one of the prizes tag me to let me know — by default they'll all be going to NPC community members).
Also feel free to drop thread links here for the perusal of other participants! Be sure to state whether your thread is open or private, and feel free to provide a little summary for completed threads!
Alasdair did illusion work for one of the residences — NPC Widow Sally Priestly. The theme is "ghosts of Hogwarts past." The house has been charmed to look vaguely like Hogwarts castle and various historical figures can be seen leaning out of windows/drifting around the premises soliloquizing about whatever events happened during their Hogwarts tenure. At certain intervals the house itself appears to be affected with various old disasters like the South Tower Collapse of 1127 and the Potions Laboratory Fires of 1459 (complete with colorful pillars of smoke from every window).
[Alasdair is also available for hire for illusion work for any other residents/businesses who want to participate!]
Laurel has drafted Zinnia and Thistle into helping with the Potts Florist display. Using magic and their wares the shop front appears as a large tree with hanging branches of "leaves" changing colors for the fall. These leaves are flowers in appropriate colors that have been charms to fall down into planters.
Dahlia was in charge of decorating Honeyduke's and did so with great enthusiasm. There was magic involved, but Fallin is still thinking up a description.
Daff decorated Elias' workshop front because she could. It featured their gigantic pumpkins turned into a large, ten-foot snowman-esque figure complete with an autumn-themed broom. It wore a witch's hat and a scarf and had a jack-o-lantern for a head. Daff also created an archway of colorful leaves, berries, vines and sapling branches. It featured fake spiders web and creepy crawlies too!
Nephele's decorations are conspicuous by their absence. She would normally go all out and have a lot of traditional Samhain decor and florals at the front of the house, but there is nothing this year.
