Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ

Ambrose Chambers

29 | Slytherin | UCPB |  Rep 8 | Sponsor of Puddlemere United; Author

Ambrose Chambers is an author and playwright and new sponsor of Puddlemere United. He is a progressive firebrand who is equally at home fervently defending the place of muggleborns in wizarding society or dreaming up a short story while enjoying a peaceful walk in the park. When he isn't up on his soapbox or hidden away in his study writing he partakes in society and is a big fan of professional Quidditch.

Looking for:

  • Friends: Most likely candidates would be professional connections of some kind or Wellingtonshire neighbors, but this is very flexible. So long as there's a reason for them to meet and hit things off Ambrose isn't too picky in terms of class or blood status. Prejudiced purebloods would probably find him a bit less friendly if their position is known.

  • Hogwarts Connections: Ambrose attended Hogwarts from 1874 to 1881. Besides his core classes he took Care of Magical Creatures, Ghoul Studies, Muggle Studies, and Art. He was in Slytherin but was generally outgoing and served as a prefect in his last three years at school.

  • Quidditch Connections: Ambrose's father played for Puddlemere United in his youth until age forced him out, so the Chambers family were always involved with professional Quidditch generally and Puddlemere specifically. He picked up sponsorship for Puddlemere last year and is trying to be visible at their matches and practices to micromanage the team show his support. Might also be aware of the sponsors of the other teams in the league.

  • Other Professional Connections: Ambrose previously worked as a lawyer representing a select group of clients. Other lawyers, past clients, and those members of the Department of Magical Law Enforcment involved with or testifying in cases might be vaguely familiar. Despite having a publisher he also handles a lot of networking and marketing for his books himself. He would be a frequent sight at bookstores and libraries, either on business or just for his own reading pleasure.

  • Hurling: With everything going on he hasn't put a relationship on the top of his priority list. However, he would eventually prefer to be married and continue the Chambers family. Just because he isn't actively looking doesn't mean things can't accidentally fall into place.

  • Enemies: Ambrose has a lot of views that he feels very strongly about. Egalitarianism, unions, house-elf welfare, several takes on wizarding law, and especially a disdain for pureblood supremacy. When it comes to defending those views or attacking proponents of views he finds distasteful his filter easily gets away from him. Editorials, letters, and his literature serving as a soapbox can all be expected. Any pureblood supremacists or other public figures or intellectuals looking for a feud are welcome.

Hey I have many things for you!

Eldritch Morgan and he would have been roommates in Slytherin during Hogwarts! Morgan is also a lawyer xD Go figure. Morgan is central-ish in his political beliefs but his family is conservative, so he's very quiet about politics and would be uncomfortable with someone who was not.

Ozymandias Dempsey - if you're involved with Christabel, he's probably her least favorite brother, so there's fun to be had here. Oz is openly disparaging of authors despite being surrounded by them. His political views are "whatever stirs up the most shit" most of the time so I don't imagine they would be friends xD

Tiberius Lestrange and Victor Daphnel are close-ish to his age and both UCPB. Tiberius is a bigot and would be vocally dismissive of Ambrose's views were they to ever interact, while Victor would be more bemused than anything. He's liberal-ish but 'traditional by default' about any subject he hasn't spent time thinking about, which is many of them. :P

Dorothea Twycross is hurlable, though MC. She thinks he's fun.

@"Juliana Binns" and he could run into each other if he's often found in Wizzhard Books (which her brother owns) or Crowdy Library, as she is frequently in both places. She's very liberal and doesn't mind being outspoken about such things. She's also similarly aged but she was expelled from Hogwarts so they might not have known/remembered each other from school.

Finally, Thom Pettigrew was the Puddlemere United sponsor before! He is not likely to come back in the near future but if you need some background flavor, Thom is also big in the Quidditch manufacturing industry and would give Puddlemere special deals on team gear and things like that. Unless Ambrose does something to irritate him or makes any negative comments about Thom's (micro)managing of the team, in which case you get no deals forever because Thom can be exceedingly spiteful :P (Also, I'm headcanoning that Thom sold the team in a fit after the Quidditch League bludger changes* and sort of regrets it but won't admit it xD)

*which I realize are not in our timeline because it hasn't been updated in three years, whoops. A bludger hit during the Quidditch World Cup went into the stands and killed someone and then professional Quidditch was paused, then they were allowed to play but with empty stands, then they had to put new protection charms around all the stands in order to get fans back.

Oh haiii!

Mister Thomas Harvey I think went to school same house as him, Quidditch team as well! I could see them still getting along on these things despite the class difference? Tommy’s only come back to Hogsmeade this year from living in the US a few years.

@"Sophia Voss" is… crazy. In a good way? Their class might clash, but she’s got other triplet sisters in MC and UC, and will easily pretend to be them if he mistakes her for one of them. Smile more of a random encounter I imagine.

Ida Chang for an improbable hurl. She’s a very academic type and honestly would rather die than get married, but for sure all her friends are trying to set her up to marry UC. So there’s an awkward encounter xD

I may have a UCPB gent I will app this week who could be a very interesting fit Smile He’s not particularly purist, but he’s a bit dogmatic about law, there can be some fun conflict here. They would have definitely met both at school and later at work.

Hi Robin Smile Let's see. I have:

Atticus Foxwood who is an UCPB and would have been with him at Hogwarts, although in different houses. He has a house in Wellingtonshire, so they easily could have run-ins there. He can't say much on blood because some of his family is half blood. I've toyed with the idea of him becoming a sponsor (which he'll fail at because his quidditch knowledge is at zero, so whoops lol), so that could always be a fun discussion, especially if they're friends.

Juniper Edevane, once hearing he was passionate, would probably like to provoke him, even if her ideals weren't different from his. (Granted, I don't think they'd be the same.) She's an instigator. She's a brand new deb, so that's also fun.

Delilah Warbeck could be a potential friend? She wants a better world for her daughter to live in, so I imagine some of his ideals align with hers. She's MC, although they at least would have overlapped at Hogwarts for a couple years.

Ambrose will certainly be a friend of Christabel, so there might be some drama to be had between him and Ozymandias. Should the verbal sparring be entertaining enough he might go out of his way to instigate debate for his own amusement. He's also considering a membership at Atlantis, so encounters with Victor either at the club or out and about in Wellingtionshire are possible. Ambrose would almost certainly keep in touch with any classmates who also went into law, especially before he decided to abandon the profession for being an author. He might keep in sporadic contact with Eldritch.

As for Dot, I would be open to throwing the two together and seeing what happens. Although I am not sure how they might cross paths except by accident. Even if he had need of a consultant she might not be his first choice.

And thank you for the background info on Thom. I will keep that in mind regarding Ambrose's sponsorship of Puddlemere United.

These seem like they could make for a few awkward encounters. Ambrose would almost certainly have gotten along with Thomas despite the class difference. Honestly, he might actively seek Thomas out to get his opinion on the state of wizarding America to satisfy his own curiosity. Books and newspapers can only show so much of the picture. Either Sophia or Ida could make for interesting chance encounters. If any of Ida's friends felt so inclined they could probably engineer an "accidental" meeting between the two.

I could see Atticus and Ambrose being friends at some point. It is no secret to his neighbors in Wellingtonshire that he is always willing to bring along company to his box for Puddlemere matches or practices. Atticus would need only ask if he were interested in learning more about sponsoring a Quidditch team. And Ambrose probably has a wizarding chess set sitting around somewhere, not that he's especially skilled at the game.

As previously mentioned, class isn't a big concern to Ambrose, so some overlapping time at Hogwarts might be enough to have at least a passing familiarity with Delilah. He took his responsibilities as prefect rather seriously and would have been concerned even with students outside of Slytherin. Were he in the right place at the right time to hear news of her husband's passing it isn't out of the realm of possibility he might send his condolences. A run-in on High Street also isn't out of the question given that they're both in Hogsmeade.

Juniper would probably hear about his temperament long before actually meeting him in person. It isn't exactly a secret, and I welcome any attempts to get him to lose his cool.
