Augusta Robins vs. Questor Spryly
#1
July 24th, 182 — Headquarters of the London Society for the Practice of Combative Magic

What.....an unusual pair of people. He knew of Miss Robbins from various Quidditch circles, though had never directly made any sort of conversation with the Quidditch player. But that was more of a connection than the one he had with the peculiar young fellow opposite Miss Robbins. Curious to see what the results of this duel would merit, the auror read the rules and nodded towards Miss Robbins to commence. "When you're ready, Miss Robbins."

Pity this wasn't a physical scuffle, because Gus felt fairly certain she could have beaten this pretty boy scamp with one solid tackle if she'd tried. Instead she smiled politely and ducked into – some measure of – a curtsy, if not an elegant one; once she raised her wand, she sent a Twitchy-Ears hex across, hoping the sensation would aggravate him into a fit of distraction.

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating

Spryly was in it for the prize money but he was no longer feeling as confident as he had when he initially signed up. Even if his opponent was a woman he knew her to be a professional quidditch player and she certainly didn't look as though she was about to conjure flowers at him. Expelliarmus! He'd try something more adventurous once he was warmed up.

Eyeing up this magnificent set eh? MJ sold her soul to Satan's graphic designer. I wish he'd take mine too.

Miss Robbins' spell worked a treat, and Mr. Spryly's spell utterly failed - though at least he got the incantation out correctly. "The first point to Miss Robbins." Faustus announced. "Mr. Spryly, when you are ready."

Spryly clapped his hands to ears as he felt them suddenly spasming of their own accord. It was hardly the height of offensive magic but it was definitely distracting.

Obviously he'd lost the first round, suddenly the prize money seemed nigh on unobtainable. Locomotor wibbly! The jelly-legs jinx was one of his favorite spells but would it be enough to keep him in the competition?

Gus grinned broadly. She hadn't been sure of her chances, but so far, so good! As quickly as she could, she shot back a Stunning spell this time.

This time, it was Spryly's turn to cast a decent spell. Miss Robins had only time to raise her wand before the spell hit her square in the chest and her legs failed to support her. Her spell, which she'd managed to get out correctly, pinged harmlessly onto the shield guarding the crowd. "This next point to Mr. Spryly!" Faustus ruled. "And Miss Robins, when you feel you are restored to rights, please commence our tie-breaker."

Well, that wasn't the first time she'd ever fallen flat on her arse, but she wasn't ready to give it up just yet.

Trying not to grin too prematurely, she cast one of her favourites, a Bat-Bogey hex. It had never failed her before.

Ha! He wasn't out yet!

For his final spell Spryly went for a confundus charm. Hopefully she'd be confused before she could finish her incantation.

A bat-bogey hex was always a fantastic option for a spell during duels, but the results were always of a mixed variety. Sometimes the outcome was rather funny, but then there were other times where it could be rather embarrassing for the recipient. While Miss Robins’ spell wasn’t the most perfectly cast, it was quite obvious that Mr. Spryly’s confondus charm did not work, as he was currently in the midst of dealing with a decent amount of things spewing forth from his nose.

”Miss Robins shall advance to the next round.”
