Nicolette,

How are your classes?

Your gown design is near to finished — I wished to get your opinion. Lotus flower or orange blossom? Both convey a message of purity.

Sincerely,
Mother

Dearest Mother,
Classes are going well - the school has definitely come alive with Professor Darrow's Living History assignment. He seems to have made groupings undetermined by social standing, house or age and it's been quite the talk of the common room. I for one am quite happy to have dropped History for my Newts because listening to the talk it seems quite painful especially for those who are quite intent on having things perfect.

Opinionswise, I would prefer the lotus flower to the orange blossom - I like the wide petals and their placement far better than the spindly leaves of the orange blossom though should I be asking for context because that may change my answer? I am looking forward to seeing the finished result next Hogsmeade trip.

Regards,

Nicolette,

Nicolette,

Goodness me, that sounds like both a fantastic idea and a disaster waiting to happen. He truly arranged it without regard to social standing and age? I suppose it will foster goodwill and charity, but it also might result in dangerous sweeping opinions based on one series of interactions.

I thought it was obvious, my apologies — I am referring to hemline embroidery. I quite agree — the lotus flower is quite striking, and perhaps we can enchant the gown with their fragrance? Unless you find it too powerful. A subtle enchantment, though, is in order.

Sincerely,
Mother

Dearest Mother,
He truly did! I have had to console dormmates who found themselves somewhat outnumbered by first and second years and despairing that they have their NEWTs this year and have no time to babysit to ensure that they recieve marks that will secure success in the outer world - of course it's a great chance to bond with the younger years and act as private tutors but I'm sure the whole thing will have mixed results.

Though now you bring up hemline embroidery and scents I am torn. Perhaps the smaller sized flowers would suit a hemline better than the lotus and I do enjoy the refreshing citrus scent of orange blossom again over the lotus because as you said it can be quite over powering.

Now Torn,
Your Daughter Nicolette.
