Settling In Alright?

It has been long since we last spoken and I'm unsure if you remember me. My name is Miss Annabelle Scrimgeour, and we spoke over tea at the Painted Lady regarding the half-breed cause and your paintings.

It recently crossed my mind that you were one of the many students permitted to return to Hogwarts in January, and I thought I might send you a letter. I hoped you've settled in all right; it seems Minister Ross' election has soothed much of the tension within the community, but I'm not so daft to believe the fight for equality is over.

Please do write back if time permits; I understand that the school year, especially around this time, can be quite busy!

Miss Scrimgeour,

I have to agree that it has been a long time since we last spoke with one another. You gave me some good advise, and I still am grateful. Our conversation was a nice one, and you are very kind. It is a happy surprise to find out that you remember me.

School is not nearly as stressful as some of my fellow returning peers may act like it is. The school work is much easier, given that it is a repeat as last year. However, I am saddened for the missing semester, and the fact that we must make up for it by repeating the end of last year. I do not get to spend as much time with my friends from the same year that I had been, and it feels strange. But I am quite grateful to be here, and that is all that matters.

Minister Ross has given me the opportunity for a full education, giving me more of a chance to find a good job for my future. For this, I will always be grateful to him. My entire life has been a fight for equality, and I'm sure we will possibly not see full change for a very long time, perhaps not at all. There is a chance, however small, that we will see our lives come and go before the fight is gone. But that will not stop us from giving up, for if it does not at least give me my own equal right, then at least that of my future children, or their children.

I will remember to do so. Chats with you are pleasant and it would be a shame if we ever completely stopped talking.

From,
Miss Acacia Ruskin

It soothes my nerves to know you're adjusting well to a situation that's unusual at the least. I've never heard of a situation where students at Hogwarts have ever repeated a year, and never with the incompetence of the Board of Governors as a reason!

I do hope they're not forcing you to retake your OWL examinations. I remember how stressed I was in the months leading to those pesky tests; it would be awful if they forced them upon you once more!

Miss Scrimgeour,

It is a strange situation, but a some hard work and focus does help to adjust with this change. Seeing my friends again is a nice welcome, and change from the end of last year. At least I do not have to repeat a full year, and that the board has let us all come back before the second semester could start.

Retaking OWLs are an option, but not a requirement. It is nice for those who did not get grades that were too their liking, and nice to not have to take the tests once more if our grades were satisfactory. Hopefully I will not have a hard time with NEWTs, especially with the fact that I have taken half of a school year twice now.

Miss Acacia Ruskin

It's wonderful to know that you're capable of making the best of the situation! I'm sure the extra half a term will allow you the opportunity to gain knowledge that many others of your year and below have not experienced. The professors are allowing you to study more advanced subjects, I hope? Especially since you do have adequate OWL scores under your belt.

If you were to ever need assistance with any of your schoolwork, especially any involving Charms, Herbology, Potions, or Transfiguration, I am always willing to be of assistance.

Miss Scrimgeour,

I have actually not thought to ask. That is a very smart idea. Thank you, I shall request for more advanced study materials when I and my professors are free to talk.

I will keep that in mind, thank you. I will let you know if I need any assistance. Perhaps we can see each other during the next Hogsmeade weekend?

I would be glad to schedule tea during a Hogsmeade weekend, but I must admit it would depend on upcoming availability. The hospital keeps me during often unpredictable hours during the daytime, and Hogsmeade is a long way from where I'm currently living.

If you have a specific time you desire, please let me know in advance so I can make arrangements.

Miss Scrimgeour,

The next visit a while away, perhaps this advanced of notice, you would be able to request the time off? And there are always magical means to travel to the village, if you don't mind such travel. May twelfth will be the next date that my fellow peers and I shall be heading to Hogsmeade.

Perhaps lunch at The Three Broomsticks. It is a very nice place to spend time at and the food is nice.

I will surely make a request that afternoon, but the superiors have been known to be strict with the interns about time off. I do not wish to look like I'm trying to escape my duties! I will contact you soon with my answer.
