Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

Detentions @ Hogwarts
#1
Hey! I wanted to ask what type of punishments there are at this time at Hogwarts. Corporal punishment would be allowed at this age but I was wondering how much of it were prefects allowed to use? And would there be different punishments for males and females?

For example, it is my understanding that whipping students would have been allowed in this era. However, would it be a punishment only for men, because it'd be weird to whip girls? Or would it be allowed too? Amy March was caned for bringing those lemons at school, for example, so maybe violence is cool for either gender. Furthermore, would only male prefects be allowed to whip students, or would Seneca do so too? resulting in her finding out she's into BDSM

I compiled a list of possible detentions:
  • Caning/whipping.
  • Have the student face a boggart. (For 3rd years and older)
  • Have the prefect curse/jinx them from a list of allowed jinxes. (So Seneca could use the stinging hex on them but not the Cruciatus Curse or something lol)
  • Classic thumb hanging.
  • Make the person confess to their favourite possession with Veritaserum and them force them to destroy it while a prefect watches.

Not Hogwarts specific - BUUUTTT I went to a very old boarding school, and back in the day Prefects could cane younger students (5th years couldn't punish 7th years) but could only give a certain number (I think I remember it being 5) whacks across the hand, anything more had to go to teachers.

I don't think prefects should be permitted to dole out corporal punishment, sorry :P

I would say that only female faculty would be allowed to administer such punishment to female students just because the idea of Hamish caning Seneca is really fucking off to me xD I also feel like nepotism is definitely a factor here—WC characters would be more likely to see it than UC.

This is hella intriguing but possibly illegal xD

I love it <3

We should have a detention stamp if the staff have time to make one <3 And you get it if you thread out all detention stypes.

Idk why I'm so passionate about all this. xD
