Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

UC/MCAB | Rep 6+ | Ball

What: The Belle Époque Illuminé Ball
Who: Hosted by Mrs. Delphine Maxime (who is visiting from Paris) and Elizabeth Wixeldorf
Cost: N/A
Where: The Wixeldorf Estate, London
Why: I needed a backdrop for a Leo threadThe Season is almost upon us
When: 24 April 1895

The evening will feature a live orchestra for those who wish to dance and a tableau vivant performance depicting famous pieces of art. The ballroom will be illuminated by chandeliers, with mirrored walls enhancing the grandeur. A champagne fountain along with the usual refreshments will be available for enjoyment. Food is more French aligned than British.

(And yes, you definitelyprobably will hear Mrs. Maxime talking about how this is the event of the year for Britain because she too, thinks she’s better than everyone.)

UC/MCAB | REP 4+ | Charity Event

What: COB Clothing Donation Drive Luncheon
Who: Predominantly hosted for MC/UC women who wish to make a difference in society by donating clothing that will be used in a clothing drive for the COB next month; NPC Mrs. Wimblebush is the driving force behind this.
Cost: One or more clothing donations, or a hefty monetary donation for clothing to be purchased
Where: Destiny Hotel, London
Why: Collecting donations for the COB next month
When: 8 April 1895

Invitations have been sent out to each UC household. Select upper MC (aka those Mrs. Whimblebush thought could afford it) have been sent invitations as well. Each person who is going to attend the luncheon is expected to donate at least one piece of clothing for young witches and wizards to wear at the COB. Accessories will also be accepted, although just donating those will probably make other people look down upon you. Donations will be accepted from 1 April 1895 through 8 April 1895, and can be sent directly to Mrs. Whimblebush or brought to the event. Staff will be on hand to take them.

The luncheon itself will be hosted on 8 April, and is meant for everyone to gather to see the fruits of their labor. There will be light refreshments and a pianist for some background music. While they are eating, the clothing will be set up with a note of who donated it, and guests will be (silently) encouraged to see who was stingy and who was generous. Monetary donations will be indicated as well, but the amount will not be given. After guests take note of their hard work and all the donations they have collected, Mrs. Whimblebush will give a brief speech thanking everyone for their generosity and how this drive will benefit the WC who are set to enter society this Season.

The clothing will be available to the witches / wizards to come try on and pick out during their Hogsmeade visit in May (event will be made lol)

UC/MCAB | REP 4+ | OPEN HOUSE

What: The Nott Collection Open House
Who: The Notts (well, Hadrian) is opening just the ground floor and gardens of the family manor to visitors for the weekend, including UC/MC society and friends, as well as interested academic/magizoologist/herbologist types (can be working class if they are vouched for by a MC/UC guest).
Cost: N/A, although Hadrian will be schmoozing for sponsorship of his vague future expeditions~
Where: Hellington Cross, the Nott country house in Seething, Norfolk
Why: To "educate", i.e. show off Hadrian's natural history collections to the public. (Also to show off that he's Doing So Great after his divorce, shhh.)
When: Daytime, 19 & 20 April / Hadrian will invite any likely sponsors to stay on for dinner & drinks

Hadrian's collections have been spread throughout the ground floor rooms of the house, through which people are free to wander, museum-esque. Think glass cabinets and drawers and jars of exotic oddities, pinned insects and skeletons, plant samples and pressed rare flowers and botanical sketches some might be Cordelia's work or discoveries, as well as a wide variety of stuffed taxidermied creatures (muggle and magical) dotted around the place. Probably also some appropriated artifacts from remote tribes and foreign cultures.

He also has a living menagerie of not-especially-domesticated creatures who roam around the house and grounds at liberty. Think snakes and peacocks and jobberknolls, zebras and dik-diks and fire crabs. There is also a tame winged tiger called Nebuchadnezzar.

There will be a self-replenishing buffet of refreshments in the drawing room opening onto the patio for anyone who wants to mill around and socialise instead.
