ACAB | Any REP | DADA Field Trip

What: DADA Field Trip
Who: OWL/NEWT students
Cost: N/A
Where: Hogsmeade Hall
Why: To teach practical curse-breaking skills
When: 5 February 1895

Students will gather after breakfast and walk down to Hogsmeade Hall. It has been enchanted to resemble a small manor. When students walk in, Gus will explain the manor has a binding curse that traps people inside. It started with an enchanted heirloom with a powerful dark spell intended to trap the souls of the family in the manor after death, but over time, the curse grew out of control, spreading to the entire estate and warping its magic. In order to break the curse, the students have to solve different challenges. They will not come in contact with all of them. None of the spells, curses, objects or anything in the manor can do bodily harm to the students, although they may walk away with some minor injuries if they are not careful. Students have practiced counter-spells for each of the following, in some capacity:

Some curses included in different rooms, but not limited to:
  • Bouncing Object Curse (The key to this room bounces uncontrollably and avoids being held.)
  • Blurring Vision Curse (Everything appears blurry, making it hard to see clearly, let alone make it from one end of the room to the other.)
  • Mimicking Curse (An object mimics another, therefore there are multiple fake doors and objects throughout the room)

Some puzzles included in different rooms, but not limited to:
  • Disembodied whispers give contradictory instructions about how to proceed. Only one voice tells the truth.
  • A chessboard blocks the exit, and students must solve a chess puzzle to proceed. Any incorrect move animates a piece, which casts harmless jinxes like Tarantallegra.
  • A pool of enchanted water reflects a false image of the room, obscuring a hidden lever.
  • A magical harp plays a tune, and students must replicate it to open a chest that has the key to the door inside. Each wrong note makes the harp emit sparks that can sting. The more wrong notes, the quicker the harp plays.

Feel free to use any other puzzles/curses/hexes/charms, as long as they are not deadly. There are no creatures inside.

The goal is to find the cursed heirloom and break the curse (which Gus will explain can be broken by a simple counter spell, for the ease of the assignment) by solving some of the room-based challenges. These must be completed in order to move through the manor into different rooms. The heirloom will reappear every few minutes so multiple students have a chance to escape. Once they have escaped, they will appear back in the lobby where Gus is waiting for them. They will have a couple hours to try to escape; once time is up, the enchantment will fade and students will find themselves in just the hall. (Think like a VE version of an escape room.) They will walk back to Hogwarts prior to lunch.

House points will be awarded for an archived thread, 8+ posts with 3 being your own. Just PM this account with the archived link.

MC/UCAB | REP 6+ | Ball

What: Cupid’s Arrow Love Day Ball
Who: A mother who wants her children married (if you want to host this, give a shout!)
Cost: N/A
Where: Estate in Wellingtonshire
Why: Time for some Valentine’s balls<3
When: 12 Feb 1895

The ballroom is decorated with cascading pink and red drapery, heart-shaped lanterns that are enchanted to glitter, and over the top rose arrangements. Food and drinks are provided; they are pink and red colored to fit the theme. Tiny enchanted cherubs flutter around the refreshment table, sprinkling rose petals around it. At the center of the ballroom stands a (slightly larger than) life-sized Cupid statue, bow in hand, poised mid-shot. A very small sign at the base of the statue reads: "Beware of Cupid's aim—love may find you when least expected!" There is a dance floor, of course.

What guests don’t know is that the Cupid statue has been enchanted to “fire” arrows during the ball. Of course it’s just a spell in the shape of one. At random intervals throughout the night, Cupid will release a golden arrow that randomly targets two attendees, linking them together with some spell. The spell encourages them to interact in some way, such as dancing, talking, or exploring the ballroom. While the spell can’t cause romantic feelings, it does amplify emotions that someone is feeling. The spell only lasts for 15 minutes. Beware that Cupid’s aim isn’t always perfect, therefore two people who are not entirely suited for each other might be struck.

The tiny cherubs by the refreshment table might try to position others in Cupid's path for the fun of it.
