UCAB* | ANY* REP | "Country" Week-End

What: Rowle Annual Country Week-End
Who: Hosted by the Rowle family, specifically Robert Rowle and Sybilla Rowle, for the right sort of society people each year. This has traditionally been influenced by Algernon Rowle's preferences, who is in power at the time, and Robin's work connects. The formal guest list is here—please check before deviating!
Cost:
Where: “The Castle”, Nevis Range, Scotland

It used to have a proper name, but it’s been in the family for literally hundreds of years. This “country home” of the Rowle family is actually a castle hewn into the Nevis range in Scotland. Muggles who get too close will feel a distinct sensation that they have forgotten something terribly important, and livestock left to graze nearby are occasionally eaten by Algernon Rowle’s prized lions. Each of the married Rowle children have their own wing within the castle added on when they marry like some sort of weird Encanto deal.

Why: #Tradition
When: July 19th-23rd
FRIDAY: Guests to arrive after lunch; tea and the usual accompanyments will be served throughout the afternoon in case you get peckish, though. Formal dinner in the evening, followed by cards, parlour games, general loitering, etc.

SATURDAY: Married ladies will, of course, breakfast in bed. Unmarried ladies, gentlemen, and weird married ladies will start the day with breakfast. Following this, the men will go hunting while the ladies will do... lady things? See the list of general amusements below. They will meet the men for lunch in the wilds, if they so choose. Formal dinner. A famed soprano has been brought in to sing for everyone in the evening.

SUNDAY: A more casual day with informal meals, owing to the ball in the evening.

MONDAY: Depart after breakfast.

Throughout their stay, guests may engage in...
  • Organized tours of the castle or take an unauthorized one away from prying eyes
  • Riding (horses provided)
  • Falconry (BYOB—bring your own bird!)
  • Badminton
  • Pall Mall
  • Tour the gardens, including a hedge maze
  • Various parlour games and other typical indoor activities
  • Assorted instruments in public areas of the dwelling
  • Hide in your room like a weird loner
  • Go for a bit of a ramble
Basically, it is a shockingly large number of people invited to one "house" for a weekend, more intimate than general society but still very much A Party of sorts.

UCAB | REP 7+ | BALL

What: Black & White Ball
Who: Upper Class society ft. MC ministry/hospital VIPS, not sure, just ask!
Cost: n/a
Where: The Malfoys' London Manor
Why: These girls gotta marry
When: July 31st, 1894

The Malfoys are hosting a ball, because Merlin, these girls gotta go. The theme is black and white with gold and champagne accents. Inspo! Debs should wear white, everyone else can choose! A typical ball in many aspects, there will be fireworks at midnight and the back garden will be charmed to be dull in color so that the white flowers stand out. Guests may appear "black and white" as if they were in a photograph while outside, but will return to normal upon reentry to the house (this can totally go awry if you like!)

ACAB | ANY REP | FISHING TOURNAMENT

What: Hogsmeade's Fishing Tournament

Hosted by Basil Potts and Bert Plunkett and East Ridge Farm
Cost: Entrance Fee of 5 knuts for adults, and 10 knuts for the competitive level, kids are free

An all day fishing competition has over taken the banks of the Black Lake. Pavailions have been set up on the lake's shore for those fishing, while spectator tents have been set up a bit away from the lake (so as not to scare the fish with their noise). Stalls from local Hogsmeade businesses have been set up near the spectator tents, notable mentions are Honeyduke's, Potts Florist (selling good luck boutonnieres and posies), Jewell Distillery, and the Plunkett General Store where you can get a glass of Betty Plunkett's famous lemonade. There will also be a lecture about local water flora by Basil Potts during the afternoon to keep those who might wish to nap awake.

There are three levels of competition that can be entered:
Children's: No entrance fee
First place prize includes 10 knuts, a bag of Honeyduke's candy, and an enchanted goldfish
Second place prize includes 5 knuts and a bag of Honeyduke's candy
Third place prize includes a bag of Honeyduke's candy

Adults: 5 knuts entrance fee
First place prize includes a bottle of Jewell Firewhiskey, a bottle of East Ridge Wine, and a picnic basket with a full dinner cooked by Betty Plunkett (so you know it's good and likely has one of her famous apple pies in it)
Second place prize includes a bottle of Jewell Firewhiskey and Betty Plunkett's famous rhubarb pie
Third place prize includes a bottle of East Ridge Wine and Betty Plunkett's apple scones (made to pair wonderfully with the wine she picked out)

Second place prize includes 6 sickles, a bottle of Jewell Firewhiskey, and a smaller floral arrangement from Potts Florist

UC/MCAB| REP 6+ | BALL

What: Midsummer's Night Masquerade Ball
Who: Lowri Dempsey and Shalott Dempsey are hosting and have invited the usual ball suspects
Cost: N/A
Where: The Dempsey Estate
Why: Lottie wanted a Shakespeare themed ball (to try and inspire her "Hamlet" to show his face)
When: July 13, 1894

The Dempsey Gardens have been changed into a fairy ballroom for the evening. There is a marble dance floor that has been laid out with marble colonnades surrounding it, vines growing off them, and enchanted fairy lights twisting up top. The "ceiling" has been enchanted with small enchanted stars to cast light upon dancers below and vines and floral garlands drape between columns. Chairs have been brought out for those not dancing and have flowers and vines growing on their legs and backs. The musicians dressed as Tatiana's court sit surrounded by enchanted hedges laden in flowers. Refreshment tables have been laid out with an exquisite array of food and enchanted to look as if they are a fairy's feast, with flowers and greenery thickly decorating the table between dishes and the tablecloth sides as rose bushes.

Guests are encouraged to come as a character from a Shakespeare play. Shalott is wandering about the party as Ophelia. Lowri Dempsey is Queen Mab and her husband is King Oberon. Don Juan Dempsey is Puck.

The ball shall continue until first light so guests may watch the dawn and depart as if they are fair folk too.

UC/MCAB | REP 7+ | BALL

What: A Venetian Evening
Who: Respectable Society (i.e. the usual suspects) including their children hosted by Hermione Longbottom
Cost: N/A
Where: The Longbottom Home in Wellingtonshire
Why: Hermione wants to make sure the eligibles of the Protterbottom Clan get married off.
When: July 12

Inspired by our lovely banner for the summer. Hermione shall be hosting an evening loosely themed around Venice. There shall be small "cannels" surrounding the dancing floor, miniature enchanted gondolas are traveling through these. An atmospheric charm has been cast to give the impression of raindrops and sunshine shimmering on the dance floor. Illusions have been cast on each wall to show scenes from Venice. Food and drink has been inspired by Venice.

In an adjacent room to the ballroom (where the dancing floor is easily observable) children have been invited for an evening of parlor games and dancing in honor of Hermione's many grandchildren. Nannies will keep track of the charges and a silencing charm has been cast so the noise of the children doesn't filter into the ballroom but the children can still hear and see into the ballroom.

Any member of the Protterbottom clan has been invited to spend the note after the ball and the nursery has been opened to allow a place for children to sleep when it gets too late for them.
