The General Premise
A well-established author releases a romance novel every winter. These are often gifted between women during the holiday season and this author is very well known within those circles, but nearly unheard of outside of those circles (think Julia Quinn!) A fan has decided to celebrate the release of her newest book by making the season a little more
festive for everyone - by magically trapping people into acting out the opening scenes from her previous books!
This is
place based magic which will impact the first two characters that stumble onto the scene to trigger it - the pairings are not predestined in any way and the people involved may not actually be suitable romantic interests (eg they might be male-male pairings, or one party might be married, etc). [they should all be adults though, please, for my personal ick factor :P I don't have a magical IC reason for this, just I make the plot I make the rules] The characters will find themselves compelled to play out the scenario at least thematically, but there's no forced emotion or memory magic or anything at place.
Let's try an example, shall we?
Suppose the premise was:
Muse A goes ice skating and despite not being good, they try to show off, Muse B is a medic and comes to help because they end up breaking something.
Reuben Crouch answers the thread first and decides to be Muse A. Outside of this thread he's a pretty graceful athlete, but for reasons he can't understand he's suddenly acting super clumsy! CRASH! Juliana Ainsworth enters the thread as Muse B, sees this take place, and says "Let me help! I'm a healer!" She then thinks to herself
why the hell did I say that? I'm not a healer. She proceeds to bat her eyelashes at him a time or two while she bumbles about trying to heal him, despite remaining asexual and entirely uninterested in him romantically, and despite her growing confusion over what the hell she's doing here. Et cetera.
Are your characters going to end up romantically involved after this? I mean, anything could happen, but there's no magical incentive for them to get along / be attracted / anything, so just play it by ear!
Can we tweak the premise a bit? If you're joining the thread, you should be prepared to play the prompt out as written. Once both characters are 'taken' by someone, feel free to adjust as you please so long as your thread partner is game!
You didn't include my favorite meetcute but I like this idea: Feel free to start your own in this same style/vein and link back to this post!
