Welcome to Charming, where swirling petticoats, the language of flowers, and old-fashioned duels are only the beginning of what is lying underneath…
After a magical attempt on her life in 1877, Queen Victoria launched a crusade against magic that, while tidied up by the Ministry of Magic, saw the Wizarding community exiled to Hogsmeade, previously little more than a crossroad near the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the years that have passed since, Hogsmeade has suffered plagues, fires, and Victorian hypocrisy but is still standing firm.
Thethe year is now 1894. It’s time to join us and immerse yourself in scandal and drama interlaced with magic both light and dark.
My Darling Agape,
I'm hoping the return to school after Christmas isn't hitting you too hard. Papa brought you back a lovely new journal when he came back from his last trip. It's in the care package.
I'm also writing to let you know some news. You are about to be a big sister again, I am pregnant. By the time you get home I shall probably be beginning my laying in, as the baby is due in early August. I'm sure you will be as loving of a big sister to this new one as you are to your sisters.
Your loving,
Mama
There is a fancy leather bound journal, and a package of other things she could have wanted or needed from home.
What wonderful news! I am incredibly excited for our growing family. Can I pick a name? Even if only a middle name? Oh, I promise I will take my time with finding one if I do.
I'm sorry for the later response. Upon first reading your letter, I was attempting to respond promptly, when one of my fellow Ravenclaw girls asked for help with a homework assignment. Since then, I've been rather focused on such work, which I know that you and father would be proud of.
How are Euphrosyne and Parthena? I'm sure they are elated by the wonderful news. How are Frida and Gretchen? I'm sure they each have a respective list of lovely young gentlemen on their calling cards. Which reminds me to write them when I can. I do not see Meta much. I understand, given that we have no classes together and she has her own friends. It does make me worried that my own studies will get in the way when I wish to spend time with Euphrosyne once she joins me at Hogwarts.
How are you and Papa? You both must be so excited. I wish I could be there to celebrate, but at least we will have all summer. We can look at designs for baby clothing and find the latest children's books and we could read them together and see which would be fun for the newest addition to our family! I wonder if it will be another sister or a brother, do healers know before the baby comes?
Papa and I discussed it - why don't you come up with some names and we can discuss them. We dont yet know if it will be a boy or girl, so we are taking all sorts of suggestions.
I am glad you are helping other students and making friends. Your mama can wait for your letters as long as you are enjoying yourself.
Everyone here is doing well, your sisters miss you as always and cannot wait for you to be home for the summer to tell them all about it. There will be plenty of time for you to help with the planning for the baby and to pick out books and things. We will probably be asking back Nanny Hall* for the baby. It is possibly also time, when you get back for the summer to get your own room out of the nursery, so we will have to discuss how you would like it to be decorated.
With our family tradition of respectfully utilizing ancient Greek symbology in our names, I present a list of names that I have been looking for over the past several months. I did not wish to write back until I could provide a list that I find to be adequate for your view,
Chara — Happiness
Dianthe — God flower; I must say, this one is my favorite.
Elpis — Hope
Jonas — Dove
Lykourgos — Wolf work
Makarios — Blessed
Mama, what is the non-magical animal that has spikes all over the top of its body? I could swear I have seen one wandering the castle, and fellow peers of mine have confirmed further sightings. We are not sure if there is one, or multiple. Should I be raising concern to a professor? If nothing else, Euphrosyne and Parthena will hear all about the sightings of this little creature. It seems harmless enough, despite the spikes. Though I wouldn't dare try to touch it.
My own room? How exciting! There is so much to look forward to this summer, I cannot wait.
