Welcome to Charming, where swirling petticoats, the language of flowers, and old-fashioned duels are only the beginning of what is lying underneath…
After a magical attempt on her life in 1877, Queen Victoria launched a crusade against magic that, while tidied up by the Ministry of Magic, saw the Wizarding community exiled to Hogsmeade, previously little more than a crossroad near the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the years that have passed since, Hogsmeade has suffered plagues, fires, and Victorian hypocrisy but is still standing firm.
Thethe year is now 1894. It’s time to join us and immerse yourself in scandal and drama interlaced with magic both light and dark.
Hamish stood between the combatants in the great hall, looking to each in turn. First years, both, this would be their first dueling tournament ever, and if he wasn't mistaken, the nerves were showing, particularly upon Miss Tatting (though it was difficult to tell at this distance). He had reviewed the tournament's rules, taking a bit more care and time around the order of things: the Gryffindor would attack first with the Slytherin defending in the first pass, then they would switch roles. At last, it was time.
Though he could be one for ceremony when the need arose, dueling had never particularly been Hamish's wheelhouse, and so it was with a reassuring smile rather than any real formality that he directed, "Mr. Beck, you may begin!"
Max was not very happy to be fighting a girl first, but was relieved it was another first year to start. He looked solemnly between her and Professor Darrow while he explained the rules, wearing a bit of a frown. When instructed, the boy slapped his hands on the sides of this thighs and bowed to the Slytherin. Then, he took position.
Lucy admittedly didn't think her chances were very good in a dueling tournament, but she thought it at least might be interesting. Still, now that they were here, she couldn't help being a little nervous.
Still, she bobbed a quick curtsy to Mr. Beck, and then cast a shield charm, hoping for the best.

The proof was clearly in the pudding—well, if by 'pudding' one meant 'Miss Tatting's bottom upon the floor'. The Slytherin's shield charm had come too late to defend her, instead aiming upward as she arced through the air.
Fortunately, Hamish thought as the Slytherin returned to her feet, she seemed no worse for wear.
"The first point goes to Mr. Beck," the professor announced. "Miss Tatting, when you're ready."

Max bounced up on the balls of his feet with glee over winning the first round, but at least had the decency to not smile too big before the duel was over. Instead he realized he was terrified of being tickled. He looked concerned when he cast a quick Smokescreen Spell that could hopefully throw off her aim.

Hamish had to hand it to young Mr. Beck—his efforts were certainly creative. Though this time there were no ill-effects for Miss Tatting, her spell did not hit its mark, and so the professor declared the Gryffindor the winner.
"Congratulations to Mr. Beck—though well done to you both," he added, with a nod in the Slytherin's direction. "Fortune favours the bold, after all, and it is no small thing to enter into a competition of this nature." His words, he hoped, would soften any blow to Lucy's pride.
