Ben had started towards the door, but her question stopped him. She likely would have thought this reckless, but Ben wasn't about to sit around and let her try and talk him out of it after the conversation they had just had.

"I'll only do what is necessary," he said carefully. He couldn't lie to her, but that was making finding his way through the tail end of this conversation more tricky than it ought to have been.

It wasn't the most reassuring thing he could have said but there was little she could do at this point besides trust him. Reluctantly, Nova nodded at him and prepared herself for the sound of the door closing behind him.

She couldn't leave it all to him, it was her mess and it was about time she did the right thing where Elmer Macmillan was concerned. It would hurt but that hurt currently wasn't as tangible as the battering her relationship with her brother had taken.
