Welcome to Charming, where swirling petticoats, the language of flowers, and old-fashioned duels are only the beginning of what is lying underneath…
After a magical attempt on her life in 1877, Queen Victoria launched a crusade against magic that, while tidied up by the Ministry of Magic, saw the Wizarding community exiled to Hogsmeade, previously little more than a crossroad near the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the years that have passed since, Hogsmeade has suffered plagues, fires, and Victorian hypocrisy but is still standing firm.
Thethe year is now 1895. It’s time to join us and immerse yourself in scandal and drama interlaced with magic both light and dark.

"All he wanted was twice as much sex as he was getting at home," Francesca spat. "And someone who would hang on his every word and treat him like some kind of tragic hero." He certainly wasn't getting any of that from Francesca.

Kitty flinched at the word “sex” - even though she and Finlay had had a lot of it over the course of their relationship, she didn’t really have much experience beyond that. She didn’t even know what she liked in the act, always taking Finlay’s lead and doing the things he enjoyed. She’d always felt guilty in the rare instances when Finlay was focusing on her pleasure more, feeling like she was somehow undeserving of it and that he’d stop loving her if she didn’t get right back to showing attention to his genitals.
“You’re being so cruel,” Kitty said her eyes tearing once again. “I didn’t even know he was married at first. I just - after I learned I already loved him too much. And he told me all those things about you, about how cruel you are, how neglectful, how you were a terrible mother, he told me he wanted to run away to start the family he always wanted.”

Kitty Fogg was pathetic, Francesca realized. It was an obnoxious, unwanted realization, because it meant that she couldn't be properly angry at the woman — or at least couldn't feel justified in her anger of her. It was Finlay she was really angry with, and he'd gone and died before she could vent her frustrations on him.
"Well," she said as her mouth drew into a tight line. "It hardly matters what his motivations were now, does it? My chief concern, Miss Fogg," Francesca said her name as though it were a slur. "Is recovering the money he stole from me. If you have any idea where he kept it, I'd advise you to tell me. Otherwise," Francesca paused and drew herself up to her full height again. "I will acquire a lawyer, provide them with proof of your misdeeds, and drain this foul shop for every knut it's worth."
Francesca didn't know if she could actually do that, but she did know a fair amount of lawyers, and aurors — and she imagined the Fogg Jewelry Shop was not keen on any attention from law enforcement.

Kitty wasn’t surprised that Finlay was storing money away. This was part of their plan of running away, one that she had funded herself. That being said, she had never questioned where he’d stored the money. If anything, she imagined that his wife would have easier access to it.
His widow was now threatening to involve law enforcement and Kitty blanched. Her brain was naturally wired to see Finlay through rose tinted glasses, but she couldn’t ignore the severity of the situation.
“You can’t do that!” Kitty cried out, panicked. “Your money is not here, leave our shop out of this!” Had she found out that Kitty had been stealing away money from their own register?
“Listen, Finlay asked me for money too and I gave it to him. He told me it was for us to start a family in America. You lived with him, surely he must have it around the house! How do I know that you’ve not found it and you’re now trying to blackmail me to make yourself richer!”

"If it was hidden away under his mattress I would have found it," Francesca said, offended that Fogg would imply she hadn't even looked through her own house yet. "I found all your letters."
It was only then that the first part of what Fogg had said sunk in. "Wait," she said slowly. "You mean he stole your money, too?"
“He didn’t steal it!” Kitty protested, indignated by the woman laughing. “I gave it to him, for our future!”
There was a small part in her that was now started to think - what if Finlay had stolen money from her? What if he had never intended for them to run away and the money was used for other things?
It was the same little part that would see through his facade and his excuses. The part that wanted to never see him again when she first found out he was married.
This was a dangerous little voice to listen to and if she listened to it long enough it would have devastating consequences. If she saw through all that, she would inevitably have to face how much she had betrayed herself in the last three years.
“I’m sure there’s an explanation, I’m sure he’s stored it away safely somewhere!”

Francesca gradually stopped laughing. "Good. Then I'll find it," she said. "And I'll have all the rights to it. Goodbye, Miss Fogg. I hope I don't hear from you ever again, but do look out from a letter from my lawyer."

"Legally I believe I have every right," she said smugly. "But I hardly need your money. When I find it maybe I'll donate it to charity. Oh! I know. The Widows of Dragon Attacks Relief Fund," she said, with an actual giggle. She hadn't given any thought to this before, but there was something positively delightful in being able to cut Kitty Fogg out of something.
“You’re a cruel, terrible and mean woman, no wonder your husband couldn’t stand you, you terrible shrew hag!” Kitty started yelling in lieu of a wittier comeback, as she started throwing frantically things at Francesca.

Fogg throwing things again was as good a sign as any that this interaction was over. It hadn't gone at all how Francesca had imagined, but it had certainly been... illuminating.
With a haughty wave as though they were parting as friends, Francesca left the shop.
