The explosion of vines hadn't been what he expected his son's spell to be but the result impressed him. His reflection shield had successfully repelled most of the attack but he still ended up wrapped in vines, unable to move, so was his son. To his mind it was a draw and shouldn't count as a point to either of them but MacMillian clearly thought otherwise. If he had been quicker none of his son's spell would have succeeded on getting through so he could understand the judge's reasoning. He didn't protest the point, instead he inclined his head slightly before looking over at his son.

'Vines, humph," Malcorvurs said, giving his son a brief smile. "Good attack, very effective."

He smoothed down his robes once the vines had been dispelled then moved into position for the second round. Malcorvus knew he must score a point this time, it wouldn't do to lose so quickly even to his son.

Once again resorting to a non-verbal spell he fired a blast of water, something difficult to shield against and strong enough to knock somebody off his feet. If this had been a real duel, Malcorvus would have used fire, but he didn't want to harm his son, only knock him off his feet and any spell he sent his way.
