Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

Well, Billie quite evidently found the whole thing hilarious, by the way she had cracked up and was teasing Mr. Ollivander about his hips. Satisfied that the fall hadn’t been serious or maybe just infected by Billie’s amusement - Gus had never been much adept at keeping a straight face when other people were already laughing, so she was a lost cause here - she snickered along, in spite of maybe wishing that her laugh was not so much a snort today, when she was with - well, people. Proper people. People she didn’t know so well. Not that, after the falling and the headbutting and the rest of her, either Billie or Mr. Ollivander probably expected the slightest bit of elegance from her, Gus supposed.

And he’d made it back to his feet, whatever Billie had joked about St. Mungo’s, so Gus grinned in brighter relief, because sending them off to the hospital for any reason at all probably wasn’t the ideal repayment for their efforts. “Aha, a challenge,” she joked, at the tempting suggestion of the cocoa stand. She eyed it up with more exaggeration than she probably needed to, because although it involved a little more skating it was hardly a daunting quidditch-stadium-length play, was it?

“I think I can manage that,” she declared in good humour (though decided not to bother protesting about being able to afford her own cup of cocoa until she actually made it there, just in case). “Are you coming for cocoa, Billie?” Gus added, glancing at the girl before she made a move. She wasn’t sure whether anyone Billie’s age liked being tethered to an adult’s side when they could be having more fun with their friends - but she also couldn’t think of anyone who didn’t like a warm cup of cocoa in the cold.
