Well, Connolly seemed to take his assurances on good faith. And there he was dangling a reward before Theo for grinning and bearing the conversation, in the question of another drink.
“Thanks,” Theodore said, drumming his fingers against the countertop, terribly tempted by the offer, but thinking he’d rather drink alone. “But I should be heading back,” he lied, jerking a thumb at the door, and privately thinking more of finding a different pub than heading home just yet. “Lots to do for the Cannons, you know!” He patted on the counter once more in a gesture of appreciation, and mustered up a last cheerful grin to get out of it. “You have a good night, hm?”
