The greatest thing of being on the Research Committee instead of being a lawyer (except, of course, the pay increase) was the extra free time. Albert greatly enjoyed being able to walk around the Ministry atrium with his tailored robes feeling important, and he especially enjoyed the extra time he had to schmooze with other important people.
