Perhaps she was feverish. Of all the things she had on her mind right now, Phineas could not fathom that fact that he may or may not remarry sometime down the line was what she brought forth to him in this moment. He had a particularly scathing remark about not doing it again after what she'd put him through, but chose not to say it, just in case she was right about her not having much time left.
"What of the children, they'll need somebody to be here with them." He certainly couldn't do it, not with the school to run and while he loved Ella dearly and he knew she would if he asked, he didn't think it fair of him to ask her to raise his children while he was at work.
Scowling now, especially after that low blow, Phineas moved to stand from where he'd perched himself on the side of the bed. "I should turn that question around on you, but I won't have it right now. You should rest." His tone suggested he was not open for any more discussion at this point.
