Dear Mrs. Goyle,
It gladdens me to hear that you are fairly well in the transition. I will admit I envy the youth their ability to move on. Perhaps they, unlike us, understand in their innocence some comfort we adults have not found.
The new post has kept me busy, as such transition often does. I hope that this too shall calm. It should be a reprieve to meet and speak of old times.
Catherine often asks after you. She implores me to ask you for a faithful account of how you are. She lost her husband a number of years ago and still keenly feels his loss.
