Elsie could feel the tears stinging at the corners of her eyes and so all she could do was nod, a small, sad smile on her lips. She didn't trust her voice anymore, it would catch and break and so would she if she let it. As much as she wished they had another solution, there simply wasn't. Els had the strong feeling he was alluding to using this time to figure things out, until things were different, all he needed was time, but it wasn't an unlimited resource, no matter that she'd wait forever if he asked her to. And she would, she supposed, but she had this overwhelming feeling that it would't amount to anything.
"Just don't," Elsie started quietly, still hardly trusting her voice, unsure of what she wanted to say, exactly. They'd never had and endgame and that had been fine for a while. Now they'd been forced to grow up, to see the reality of the situation and she knew what that would mean for him. If he were going to figure something out, even in time, it meant his quidditch days were over and she wouldn't let him do that. Not now, not for her. "Please don't do anything you're going to regret later."
She didn't want to jump to conclusions, nor was she even sure he'd considered it- except that she knew him. Even if they hadn't discussed it, after Lucinda had all but thrown it back in their faces, they'd both been thinking about it. If they were to ever attempt something official and substantial, things would have to change and that would start with him having to find a more supportive job, but she wanted him to do that on his own time, when he was ready to, not because he had to.
