He swallowed at the glum silence, and then at her words, which were about as glum as the silence. If she didn't know what else to do, then it meant she understood where he was coming from, and Tyb supposed that was good. He certainly wasn't going to be responsible for ruining her public reputation, and that was that.
He'd risked it enough times before. "We had a good run though, didn't we?" He murmured, forcing a grin, about as close to a joking tone as he could manage. They'd had... probably more than their fair share of luck, over the years. Tybalt only wished all that history felt like it had any weight to it, like it had meant something.
To the outside world, that was. All those times meant so much to him they were a boulder in his chest. It felt like the end of Hogwarts all over again, a future that loomed hazy on the horizon, a sheer precipice without any hint of a landing. Leaving Hogwarts had only been a change though, so this, now, did not have to be an end.
Now that he had managed to look at her, Tybalt was dreading having to look away, because that would mean - he - he didn't know when next he'd see her, at all. He could try and explain what he was going to do - he had already decided, after all - but he was not about to risk Elsie talking him out of it, because he knew she would. "Give me time," he said instead, trying to be reassuring but releasing a hefty sigh all the same, "and I'll figure something out. Promise."
