Poltergeists could not be driven out so had to be convinced to leave. They were trickier to deal with than ghosts since they weren't bound by the same 'formerly alive' feelings some ghosts tended to continue to have well into their afterlives. They existed solely for chaos and a lack of chaos in this particular residence would be the only true way to get rid of it. It could not stay here though as the chaos would only have it just as strong as it was now once the children came home.
So perhaps a place with less children. Which he figured was just about anywhere. "That's going to be one blue bump. Happen to know anyone that would actually like a poltergeist in their home?" It was worth a shot. Maybe they could convince the Poltergeist to change residence.
