He couldn’t relate to any of her passion for complicated magic (or a Ministry career generally, to be perfectly honest) but one part of it he did understand. “Ah,” Tyb acknowledged, with a slow nod. “Definitely safer.”
He hadn’t left quidditch for that – it had been so many years now that he shouldn’t even still pine for it, probably – but Tyb supposed, if he had not had to quit for the money, that he might have had to when they had started having children, just to be sure he came home at night in one piece. The thought had briefly depressed him – but then he wouldn’t trade their children for anything, so maybe one hard decision had only made things easier in the long run. Maybe it had all worked out in the end.
And if he had to suffer through a boring job until the end of time, maybe it was a small enough price to pay. Besides, duelling was not as boring as some departments. “Well, at least you weren’t late for a Catastrophe today,” Tybalt joked, on the bright side – though he probably oughtn’t remind her of her lateness. “Let’s talk artifacts, shall we?”
