There was something about the way he seemed to take everything she threw at him and diffuse it with false effusiveness that prickled at her. There was absolutely no remorse in his air, in his response whatsoever at having interrupted a mother and her daughter. However he was rather harmless, or at least that’s what she could gather after having calmed down. Perhaps any other day she might have found him rather intriguing; he had a care free manner and a way that told her he might be used to dealing with people who - like her - leaned towards…abrasiveness. And she still had questions about how he came to disguise himself whilst here, and more importantly why.
But of course, then he had to immediately go and poke at her once more. Avery’s nose wrinkled, and she looked pointedly at the dirt. “I should think the fact that you’ve somehow gained the ability to talk to worms and insects and managed to wrestle an invitation from them far more intriguing.” She quipped dryly, because it wasn’t as if she could turn her own abrasiveness off. Not when there were people like him who seemed far too cheerful for their own good.
