Daff's features fell. This was too little, too late. They both knew it and now she really, truly had to live with it. "I've always known." She sobbed quietly. It wasn't enough anymore. Their time was over, that chapter of her life was written and had ended and she couldn't flip back anymore.
"I'm sorry," the anger drained from her limbs, the guilt and the heartbreak swallowing up everything else. There was nothing she could do. Nothing she wanted to do about it. He deserved someone who made him truly happy and she sincerely hoped he found that someday. She deserved to enjoy her marriage without this shadow hanging over her anymore. "I hope," she blew out a shuddering breath and wrapped her arms around herself. "That you find happiness, and soon." It wasn't fair, the situation he was in, it shouldn't be that way, she still believed that, but there was nothing she could do.
"I hope you know I'm rooting for you," Daff had steeled herself for the end, even if she had naïvely thought they might be friends. "But I cannot be a part of your life anymore. Please let me go."
