Eros Mohr is in his year! He'd be friendly despite their vast difference in status.
Winston Umbra is a professor but is kind of in his own world to notice much to be of actual help xD. Think Luna Lovegood but an ethereal guy instead lol.

She also knows what it's like to have to start thinking on a different language for school.
I can see him seeking her out, if only out of curiousity about her being fench. He learned many french songs to please one of the aunts who sponsor him but has no clue what they are actually about.

Mason Skeeter would subtly try to keep him in a good path too, but probably isn't as good at the literacy stuff at the most basic levels.

As a similar case of charity, she might have or exchange ideas with him about who has work and a place to sleep, including trying to get him shifts at the flower shop where she works. There's also general poor-kid tomfoolery to attempt, whether in a summer thread or Hogsmeade weekends.
Millie Potts is a student, and a year ahead of him. They would have classes together, and she does have a nose about her for dishonesty and gossip. If you'd like someone to discover/talk about or generally struggle on the illiteracy plot with, Millie is your bookworm! She's also fairly smart if he wants to try to get her to do his homework for her, I'm not sure if she'd bite but she probably looks like a worthy target.
Charley and him would share a turf in Hogsmeade, so to speak. They should definitely meet!!
PS: there has been a change in appearance and play-by but the rest stays as is
