He had tried to take it slow, but in the end his plate was already as empty as it was going to get, just a few bits of the crust of his toast left and he leaned back in his seat to allow for Enid to finish. "I appreciate your company as well." He stretched his neck and shoulders as he said it, but refocused on her face as he took a deep breath.
"It's going to be hard to try and explain it to anyone else, so I'm glad we had time to decompress without having to."
He meant it too. Trying to explain the chaos and trauma of the day to anyone who wasn't there was going to be nigh impossible. "I'll settle the bill while you finish, but no rush." As much as he wanted to sleep, he wasn't entirely sure he wanted to leave just yet. Still, he ought to make it so they could take off whenever she was ready and so he unfolded himself from the table and went to the bar to have the meal added to his tab. He had no money on him, but they knew he would settle up when he could next.
