Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

september 18th, 1893 — muggle studies classroom, hogwarts
Thomas didn’t know how to feel after he’d heard about the tragedy in London; the only dragons he knew of were the ones in Wales where his family was from and while not exactly docile, they weren’t known to eat people. He hoped that Juliana was okay, as he knew she would have been there, but he was comforted in the fact his family was safe in the muggle side of Pembrokeshire; even if his stupid brother Charles died he would have been distraught. No matter, he had lessons to do and so he put on a smile that was neither too gauche nor too forced and welcomed his students as they walked into the classroom.

“First,” he spoke once everyone was sitting down, they would see all the desks pushed together in long lines, filled with various mysterious muggle objects, photographs, newspaper clippings, etc. as if there was a mini museum set up. Every table had something different and interesting, as Thomas had brought back so much to share with his students during his stay in America that summer, “I would like to offer my condolences if any of you lost someone in London the other day. If any of you need someone to talk to, my office is always open.” Once he got that out of the way it was time to begin today’s lesson.

“As you can see, your desks are filled with muggle objects, newspapers, and photographs - the nonmoving kind, I know, fascinating and strange. All are brand new muggle inventions that were seen this summer at The World's Columbian Exposition in the States, each with a piece of parchment detailing what it is. Some are objects, some are new discoveries they made in science, maths, etc. and some are excerpts from speeches that were given while there,” he picked up a few things to show them off to some of the students in the back, “Today will be a bit different; instead of me standing here and lecturing, you are encouraged to walk around, take a look at everything, and write me an essay on what interests you the most, how you think muggles will benefit from it, and if you were a muggle, would you buy or listen to it? You can work in groups or on your own, or if you feel the need, you can leave the class and turn in the essay on its assigned due date. Grace will be given in light of the tragedy, of course. Everything will be set up here until the essay is due so feel free to come in and take a look, even bring friends who aren’t in the class and are curious.” He then gestured to a pile of various muggle treats on a table set up next to the door, including brand new ones like Cracker Jack, preserved with a spell, “Feel free to take one when you leave.”

This assignment will be due IC & OOC on November 6th (1893/2023) to give everyone plenty of time! For every 50 words you write, your character will receive 5 points up to 25 points for the whole assignment (250 words total).
