hardly the crime of the century
#17
Fifteen?” Max echoed, remarkably less indignant than Little Miss Perfect, mainly because he was trying to parse out what fifteen points really meant on the scale of how mad everyone in the Gryffindor Tower might be with him. On one hand he didn’t think it was very much, on the other hand, the girl looked like this was a death sentence.

It almost made Max feel bad. His face twitched to scrunch up, and he rubbed the back of his head, looking awkwardly between the Professor and the girl and the Professor again as their terms were laid out. Groaned openly– detention! But hardly the terror that Miss Perfect evoked.

“Is’not that bad…” he mumbled and trailed off about detention, wondering if it would really be that bad. Professor Lissington was a new professor he hadn’t had detention with, to be honest, but to date it mostly just involved a bit of hand cramping from writing letters the whole time.

No way was he feeling bad for Miss Perfect. No. Way.

Held his breath as he wondered if she would protest, but the girl looked utterly defeated. And hah-- he gave Professor some of his candy back, but not all. Might’ve cracked a few eggs in the process, but he called this a victory – soured only by how honestly, really, the girl looked like his little sister did with a pink nose and watery eyes right before she starts to cry.

Not like she’s his sister, or nothing.

“I’m fine,” he blurted in response, bouncing back and forth from the balls of his feet to his heels. He wanted to get the heck out of here. “May I go, Professor?”

And the Professor’s dismissal barely even left his lips before Max turned and high-tailed straight out of there, fast as his little legs could carry him to his dorm.
