Savino quieted, taking another opportunity to simply observe their dynamic. The more they spoke – or maybe more in what they didn’t say, just the minute changes in their expressions – the more certain he was of a shared history there, something deeper than surface level. Savino didn’t know if it was because they had once been mentor and mentee, or what they had been describing, being drawn to other Seers, or something else – but he was a little envious of it. The ease of it, or the way it felt like there was some kind of intangible understanding between them, the kind of thing he was always pursuing – maybe he was reading too much into things. He tended to do that. Obviously.

Miss Reid was back in the country permanently, it seemed. “I’m glad to hear that,” Savino offered, sincerely. And Mr. Carmichael was clearly pleased to hear it, too. “I would like to hear more about your experiences. Both of you.” He was already resolved to get to know them both better if he could, as long as they did not have too many reservations about him.

But Savino knew little enough about wand-making, so at Mr. Carmichael’s query he inclined his head at Miss Reid too, adding offhand, with a joking grin, “Oh, I don’t think anyone could take anything quite as seriously as the British do.”

Meri smiled fondly at both of them.  She was glad to be home and felt confident in her decision to stay with Ollivander's but it was surprisingly gratifying to find that other people were happy about her decision as well. 

"For better or worse I don't think my Sight has any consistent influence on my wandmaking.  And it might be the one place I would welcome it - imagine a wandmaker who could foresee a perfect wand for a person before they even came to the shop.  Or fit every person with their perfect wand on the first try every time."  The words came so quickly it was clear it was something she had fantasized often.  "Unfortunately, as with most other things anything I see is usually either a distraction or useless."

"They do." she said with a careful tone and smile, not wanting to speak ill of her hosts.  "Just in different ways. And I am happy to admit I am biased to our ways." her crafted smile shifted to a broad grin, nodding to Mr. Zabini as if to say she quite agreed with his assessment.

He chuckled; Mr. Zabini's comment was fair enough, for Elliot had never known anyone to take things as seriously as the British. (Not that he knew much about other countries. He'd traveled a bit, but had never lived anywhere outside of Britain.)

Elliot half-smiled at Miss Reid's wistful answer — it would have been useful if wandmaking and divination went hand in hand. "Biased towards our taking things seriously?" Elliot quipped, raising an eyebrow, "I jest — I'd like to hear more about Italian wandlore. And talk more with you both generally, of course."

He meant it. Mr. Zabini was interesting, and Elliot was always interested in becoming friends with more seers. And Miss Reid had always been so exactly herself, that of course he wanted to spend time with her.

Savino had rarely, if ever, really thought about wandlore, but he had to admit it was an intriguing idea – even if Miss Reid’s experiences said the Sight had never crossed over to the trade to guide her anywhere in it. She seemed content enough with her wand-making endeavours in spite of that – it sounded like she was naturally inclined to be more at war with her Sight, between the two. His smile faded a small fraction at her complaint about it – a distraction or useless – but he didn’t know how to persuade her otherwise when the Sight... well, could truly be both of those things. That was the difficulty, after all – trying to marry the innate talent of Seeing with a more practical application of Divination.

Savino chuckled at the conversation – and felt much the same, that he could happily keep talking – but he was conscious that the pair of them had been talking before he’d arrived, and he hadn’t been raised to be impolite.

Politeness was not often his first priority, admittedly, but once enthusiasm was well in hand, it was easier to remember his manners. “Yes,” Savino agreed genuinely, “– but you must forgive me for interrupting you.” He waved his hand in avid apology, his gaze drifting between the pair of them. “I am sure the two of you have more catching up to do.”

The truth was she was absolutely biased towards a propensity for taking wandlore seriously , though she doubted that's what he meant and so only responded with her own raised brow. 

She was quick to wave off his apologies.  "Oh please, I am the one who pulled you over and I'm glad I did."  It had been a very pleasant conversation.  He was easy to talk to and Mr. Carmichael... well, maybe Sr. Zabini's happy presence made it easier to talk to him too.

Still she looked at Mr. Carmichael with that unspoken question, wondering if he thought they had catching up to do.  It had been years since they'd talked, and not all of that was because she ran off to Italy for a while.

Now that Mr. Zabini had left them and Elliot was alone with her, he was not sure what to say. The years stretched between them. He remembered finding her easy to talk to, but what if he didn't anymore?

"I'm glad you're back," Elliot said simply. And maybe that encompassed it; he didn't know how else to describe his relationship with Miss Reid, except that he was very glad she was back in Britain.

She watched him walk away, his departure seeming to immediately change the tone of the conversation.  Changed it to what, she didnt know. 

"I am too." she said after a moment with a soft smile.
