Never before had a single syllable comprised of two paltry letters meant so much.

Thomas was not only saying that he would keep her confidence but that he would become part of her confidence, that she had not irreparably harmed their friendship by keeping such a monumental secret from him. We meant hope.

"The same as we've always done, I suppose," George answered tentatively with a small shrug.

"I suppose that is the wisest course of action," Thomas commented, with a single nod, though he shifted his feet about awkwardly. Despite his desire not to destroy their friendship or George's reputation, the revelation was still a shock that would likely take him some months to fully process.

"If you need a, erm--" He waved his arms, face going an unflattering shade of crimson. Fuck, this was awkward. "Reprieve?" What the Hell kind of descriptor was that? Shit, he was terrible at comforting. He hoped she knew what he meant, for he was unwilling to go into any more detail. "Do, um, let me know, and I shall play lookout." And have a bit of warning before wandering in on George half-dressed again.

He cleared his throat and tried, in vain, to appear normal, but he only seemed to become more gawky.

A beat, and then George offered gently, "I am the same me, Tom, just a bit more...honest. We can pretend, if that's easier for you."

Thomas paused, watching George for a few moments. With a flush, he sputtered out, "Of-of course you are." His tone was an attempt at being reassuring, but he was awkward as ever. Of course Waterford was still the same person. But it would still take him some time to get over the shock of it all.

"No," he stated firmly, "You shouldn't have to pretend with me." Around others, though, pretending would have to be what they did.

She might have hugged him then, if she was not presently feeling entirely self-conscious about her body and he wasn't so dreadfully awkward. Instead, George settled upon a small, almost shy smile and a nod. Though her stomach was still twisted into knots, the Ravenclaw hoped that, in time, Thomas' knowledge of her secret would be a weight off her shoulders.
