Did You Know?
One of the cheapest homeless shelters in Victorian London charged four pennies to sleep in a coffin. Which was... still better than sleeping upright against a rope? — Jordan / Lynn
If he was being completely honest, the situation didn't look good, but Sylvano was not in the habit of being completely honest about anything. No reason to start now.

ACAB | Any Rep | Christmas Trees & Holiday Arrangements

What: Cut Your Own Christmas Tree + Holiday Floral Arrangements
Who: Anyone celebrating the holiday season
Cost: Free to enter, although prices for items to purchase will vary (naturally, the larger the tree, the more expensive they will be; the more complex/larger the arrangements are, the more expensive they will be)
Where: Hillicker Farm in Porchester, England
Why: get your Christmas on
When: December 13th, 1895

The Hillicker Farm is hosting its annual opportunity to come and walk the rows or trees to find the perfect one and cut it yourself; pre-cut trees are also available. Upon request, the tree can be enchanted to twinkle with lights. It will be delivered the following day, so no worries on how to get it home.

The Wildflower Florist shop, owned by the lovely Mrs. Daffodil Grimstone also has wreaths, arrangements and other holiday florals available for purchase. Fairies never actually go away and stole a few mistletoes to follow a few people around the farm with them to cause some mischief; it’s never a good idea to anger a fairy, so do so at your own risk. (They are not subtle in their anger and you may experience sudden terrible luck until amends are made.)

A small variety of hors d'oeuvres and sweet treats from Honeydukes to satisfy any palate are found near the entrance, available for a small fee. One free hot chocolate per visitor is offered upon entry to the farm. To enjoy the food, two bonfires with chairs surrounding them have been set up.

ACAB | REP 6+ | FUNDRAISER EVENT / SILENT AUCTION

What: Fundraiser ft. dinner, dancing and a silent auction
Who: MC/UCAB society and all employees of both HH and St. Mungo's
Cost: Donations appreciated and silent auction bids
Where: Museum of Magical Miscellany, London
Why: Celebrate Jack's Promotion, ft. yay fundraisers
When: December 6th, 1895

To celebrate his promotion to Director of Hogsmeade Hospital, Jack is hosting an evening of giving in the spirit of the upcoming holidays. Guests will be treated to a dinner, dancing and a silent auction of donated items to raise money for local charities. With the help of his friend, Miss Miriam Kyprianou, Director of the Museum, an exhibit hall has been magically expanded for the dinner and will be transformed into a small ballroom to accommodate dancing. The exhibits will be open for perusal, in addition to the silent auction, which will end at midnight. Auction items include rare/first edition books, jewelry and other items. (Feel free to make up reasonable/safe items to bid on, I'm low on thoughts here.)

ACAB | REP 7- | GAMBLING

What: Blind Man's Bluff
Who: Velvet Veil for anyone who buys in
Cost: Tiered; see below
Where: Velvet Veil, London
Why: Casino has been closed too long for the habitual gamblers among us
When: 5 December 1895

In addition to the regular entertainment at the Veil, an assortment of card and dice games will be available at the back of the main floor. However, rather than bidding directly, players will be bidding blind — they have a token and don't know the monetary value of that specific token until the game ends. The table does have an advertised upper limit so players can be sure to sit at tables they can afford (or not, if they're trying to risk it all for a big payout). Tables for each game are up to 1 galleon, up to 5, up to 20, unlimited (* obviously still limited to some extent but this is the rich table and they're not advertising how much is at stake).

U/MCAB | REP 5+ | BALL

What: Snow Ball
Who: Drusilla Pettigrew hosts for typical society members + people she finds especially interesting
Cost: no
Where: Pettigrew House, Wellingtonshire
Why: ~festive~
When: 23 December 1895

It's a ball. The ballroom is filled with gently drifting snow because of course it is. The hostess will disappear for about an hour during the middle while she gets unexpectedly emotional about anniversaries of bad things, probably taking Morrigan Selden with her. The party gets a little off the rails because Albert Pettigrew did not expect to have to do anything besides talk to other Ministry men. There were meant to be sleigh rides starting at nine; instead the band hesitantly repeated half the set while killing time. Sleigh rides departing from the garden and circling Hogsmeade were eventually offered but somewhat ill-equipped and under-lit, so they might go astray. Mistletoe begins creeping about the ballroom late in the evening almost like an afterthought.

ACAB | Any Rep | Gingerbread Decorating Workshop

What: Gingerbread Decorating Workshop
Who: Hosted by Gus (and probably Dorothea) for all Hufflepuffs, although friends of Hufflepuffs are welcome to tag along; staff are also invited, if they feel so inclined
Cost: N/A
Where: DADA Classroom
Why: Some Holiday cheer
When: 7 December 1895

Students (and staff) are invited to spend an evening decorating enchanting gingerbread houses in the DADA classroom. Self-shaping dough, charmed icing to help make decorating easier, and animated edible decorations are provided, along with warm cider, cocoa and snacks from the kitchens.
A few stray gingerbread figures have been known to toddle off when not supervised, although they are entirely harmless.

UCAB | REP 8+ | BALL

What: New Years Eve Celestial Ball
Who: Eligible upperclass debs and their families (sans Eventides and Fangsworths), most of polite society, a few friends Benny forced onto the list, and the extended RC fam.
Cost: n/a, by invite only
Where: Bathurst Grange in Pluckley, Kent
Why: The Ravencrest ghost aunties are trying hard to get Benny hitched and fathering heirs. We also have no NYE events this year, sad.
When: December 31, 1895

Bathurst looks remarkably like Downton Abbey: rich, dark interiors; medieval inspiration in the decor; and ostentatious furnishings. For this event the ghost aunties have spared no expense to have the ballroom decorated in a crisp, celestial winter theme. Silver and blue do so well to accent the Ravencrest family name, don't they? The ceiling has been enchanted to showcase outlined constellations and planetary novelties. Vibes include iced florals, winter garlands, hourglasses, magical clocks with too many hands, celestial motifs, and mirrors. Endless mirrors. The evening will round out with a fireworks display out in the gardens at midnight.

ACAB | ANY REP (<8 MOST LIKELY) | NYE PARTY

What: A New Year’s Eve Celebration at The Velvet Veil
Who: Hosted by The Velvet Veil — all patrons and members welcome.
Cost: 14s cover charge includes one Polyjuice dose and a complimentary “Midnight” cocktail
Where: The Main Club (with access to suites, lounges, and member areas as usual)
Why: Out with the old year. In with bad decisions.
When: December 31, 1895

The Velvet Veil invites you to welcome the new year boldly!

As the clocks tick toward midnight, the club leans fully into indulgence: polyjuice night so you can go all out and still protect your identity, euphoria elixirs have been snuck into the mixed drinks (and the bar staff has been instructed explicitly to be heavy-handed), and at 9pm sharp, there is an anonymous auction to bid on the remainder of the evening with someone of your choice. It's a celebration of endings, beginnings, and the knowledge that whatever happens is covered by the magic of anonymity.

Begins at 8pm: Polyjuice Night (Included with Cover)
Polyjuice is the centerpiece indulgence of the evening. Every guest receives a Polyjuice dose upon entry — if you pay the 14s cover, you receive a randomly selected polyjuice. If you pay the 28s cover, you're able to select from a curated menu that show's a mini portrait of who you'll change into. The effects last until shortly after midnight… or until removed by the entrance wards upon exit for those who leave before then. (Polyjuice might be your employer, a Ministry official, your scorned lover, an innocent debutante, etc.) Guests know they may be mistaken for someone else all evening and that others may react to them accordingly.

(The club maintains plausible deniability. You chose to drink it.)

From 8pm-9pm: Musical Stage Performances and Dancing
The stage rotates performances throughout the evening:
  • Goblin jazz ensembles with heavy bass and slow, sultry tempos
  • Drag chanteuses performing bawdy Victorian ballads
  • String quartets that shift rhythm mid-song, forcing dancers closer

9pm: The Anonymous Auction
The auction is silent and anonymous and run by a Legillimens staff member. Bid on spending the remainder of the evening with the polyjuiced person on stage for dancing, drinking, conversation, etc. (Maybe they volunteered themselves, maybe their friends did, or maybe they thought it was the line to the bathroom.) Each is introduced with a short, suggestive description that the announcer made up on the spot that has a 99.9% chance of being inaccurate and theatrical.

Midnight:
The music swells into one final dance (during the last five minutes of the year), and the new year is announced with showers of glitter and fireworks. The Polyjuice effects fade, but the euphoria elixir effects hit their peak.
