Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

April 20th, 1894 - Hufflepuff Den

Antelope lay on her back in her bed, absent-mindedly fiddling with her friend's toes as she lay on her belly facing the other way with her head buried in one of her textbooks. It was after dinner and the pair were in the dorm just hanging out in and chatting. Mostly Antelope was chatting, and Corinne was studying as usual, she always worked so hard, and Antelope was sure she would do well in their upcoming exams. Antelope found classes easier than Corinne for certain and would try to help her friend. It was a strange thing that her bubbly and almost distracting demeanor didn't drive Cori insane, but perhaps the relaxation that it provided made study more tolerable.

"Are you nearly done with that chapter?" she asked playfully tapping the ball of Cori's foot with her nail in a manner that said "Give me attention" She giggled, she was happy that Cori appreciated her approach to friendship which could be described as tactile but also a little clingy. When they had begun chatting there were three in the dorm but now the other girl had grabbed her things and politely excused herself to be somewhere else leaving just the two of them.

Once they were alone, Antelope smirked, she had things that she wanted to share. "I've got some gossip about one of the Slytherin prefects... but I guess I'll have to just tell it to your foot because your face is too busy."

She went into a whisper just loud enough for Cori to hear but not comprehend what she was saying. "Hi Corinne's foot... oh yes I'm wonderful, and you?... oh, DeCroix? You already heard?... isn't it funny?"

If anyone had told Cori years ago, when she first came to Hogwarts, that her bubbly, touchy-feely roommate would be one of her closest friends, she likely would never have tolerated that utter loon in her presence again—

Yet here she was, laid out on Antelope’s bed in the dormitory, more than just tolerating the blonde ray of sunshine tip-tapping on her sock-covered heel as she tried – to no avail, mind you – to bury herself in her studies. The corners of her mouth lifted in a small, unseen smile as her fellow Hufflepuff asked, again, if she was done with her reading.

It was probably a good thing Cori wasn’t ticklish… Otherwise finishing her chapter on wand movements and DADA would have been too difficult a feat. However, as most knew, it was truly impossible to ignore Gigi for too long when she had a mind to gossip, so Cori closing her book was only inevitable for the pair – still, she held out against the other girl’s attention-seeking behavior until the third occupant of their room excused herself.

Letting the book gently close as the door shut, Cori listened with vague amusement as Annie tried to share her gossip in a stage-whisper with Cori’s stocking.

(Merlin, she would miss these moments…)

"Unfortunately," Rolling over and sitting up, she carefully drew her legs into a cross and propped her chin on her arm, elbow resting on her knee, so she could properly humor Annie, "My ears are up here, so you will not have much luck gossiping with my foot. I am finished with that chapter, though, if you wish to share."

Antelope was relieved when Corinne finally turned around and crossed her legs to give her the stage that she craved. "Oh really, they are... I could have sworn they... never mind." She equipped playfully at the comment on the location of her ears. The girl looked around the room conspiratorially as if the last person to leave might have, in fact, stopped just out of sight to listen to the gossip.

"Well, I don't know if you are friendly with the Slytherin prefect, Miss DeCroix, but I heard that all this la de da she talks about leaving school to get married is true. She's leaving at the end of term and getting married in January." She put her hands on her mouth with mock shock. It wasn't actually the most shocking news as the girl had gone on about it for three years now since the decision was made for her.

"I don't think I could imagine even considering leaving school yet, there is so much more to learn.... and certainly not for a boooy." That was one thing that Antelope and Corinne had in common, at least that Antelope believed they did. Neither of them was seeking romance with anyone. There were a couple of people Gigi felt close enough to that she could consider at least entertaining that she might be married one day, but right now she was content enjoying her education with her circle of friends, particularly this one. Why couldn't people just be content with a best friend?

"Anyway, that leaves Black looking for a new Slytherin prefect, doesn't it? Do you think they might give it to Moony after all the drama in the autumn?". Antelope liked Anne, she liked her and lot, more than her French compatriot, but she had doubts whether the school would see it fit to make that award.

She sighed, "I wonder who else might be leaving, I remember last summer when rumours went around about Miss Flitwick that she might be with child." She laughed and put her hand on Cori's knee and gave it a little squeeze.
