Introducing Violetta

14 | Slytherin 90-95 | Upper Class | Fourth Year | French

I am new to the site so this is my first one of these. Feel free to ask anything I have missed. She isn't a social butterfly, but I would like to establish a few friends and connections that she would have made in the last three years.



Friends: Violetta is a relatively socially awkward coming to a school she hadn't planned on attending and initially struggling to adapt to using English as her main language. But she does have some interests I would like to explore. Her best friend is a girl who still lives in marsaille, her best English friend moved to India with her family during the spring of 1893.


French language - in her first year she would naturally have gravitated towards any other French born students, or just students that speak french in order to make her life more comfortable.

Fashion - loves French fashion and makeup. Usually comes back from trips home with something pretty and expensive, and her mail from home also often comes packed with a scarf or some kind of lightly perfumed French garment. She likes to open these in the common room so people can see as they make her feel special and important to receive.


Literature - Biggest worm in the book but a lover of reading. Mostly mid century french literature but also learning to enjoy Charles Dickens. She has a banned French novel that she keeps hidden in her belongings that she might allow someone she particularly trusted to read. Provided they didn't tattle or get too flustered by the adult content.


Quidditch (watching) - At her parents request she tried out in the first year, she didn't want to, and she didn't get in. But she does enjoy watching the game, particularly if hogwarts are playing Beauxbatons where she once got caught cheering for the "wrong" team.


Boys - until now, boys have always been simply her social peers, now she is in that awkward phase where a boy could be a peer or opposite depending on the weather then she wakes up in the morning. Her regular mentioning of her parents plans for her arranged betrothal is a big sign that she is not looking for romance. But watching quidditch tryouts this autumn was the first time.she ever felt shy talking to a bot and her volatility may affect previous friendships with the opposite sex.



Teachers:

Violetta is a good and hardworking student but like all students she tries hardest in the things she loves. She is great at illusions and glamours, and likes to play with them outside if class too.

Her herbology teachers and divination teachers however finder a little bit arrogant and condescending towards their subjects. Never rude to the teachers, heaven forbid. But she sees those subjects as of being lower class magic.

As a fellow novel reader, Millie would encourage Violetta to join the book club!

Though I'm curious how Vi will react to the whole of the Potts family being Herbology-inclined. It could be a class where Millie offers her help or a point of contention between them. They'd be in Ancient Runes together as well as their core classes, so there's plenty of chances for homework or studying struggles to thread about.

And Millie would enjoy having another fourth year girl to hang around, one of her best friends is a Slytherin (Anne Moony)! Violetta might be one of the few at Hogwarts who know that Millie lives under a threat of being transferred to finishing school after her OWLs if she doesn't do well enough, given Violetta's proclivity for broadcasting her own plans. Though Millie is more miserable about it than Violetta is.

P.S. You can still try out for the Slytherin quidditch team if Violetta's changed her mind, most of the slots still need players.

I currently only have Victoria here to offer, who speaks not only French, but also Gaelic, and is a couple years ahead of Violetta in Slytherin. She's definitely willing to tutor in some subjects, if Violetta needs any help with Charms or Potions, which were her own two best subjects at the OWL level.

I might have more to offer come next week, but for now, Victoria's all I've got.

FYI, Hogwarts would not play against Beauxbatons. The Hogwarts houses play against one another not against other schools.

I have several students, most of whom play Quidditch. Most notable is Leander here, who is a prefect and captain of the Slytherin Quidditch team.

I'm afraid I only have a first year for a student, but I do play the Herbology professor XD Mason Skeeter who is also the Hufflepuff Head of House. I don't think he'd take her attitude too personally, but she will likely find his class tough if she doesn't put it the work!

Millie Potts - I like the sound of them being existing friends via book club which I have joined, and also charms club. The finishing school thing is fun. Violetta can't understand why Millie thinks it is a punishment. Millie can't understand why Violetta thinks it is a reward. Bonded in their opposite views of social expectations. The herbology would possibly make Violetta check under Millie's nails before handling her books. Lots of options.

Victoria Greyback - Violetta will need help with potions as she is currently looking at a P and asking another senior slytherin seems like a good route to now disappoint her parents. And finding another French speaking slytherin would have made her feel comfortable in her first year. Mind if I put that they had a pre-existing that Victoria helped her with English at the start?

Leander Hobday - Well I never, I thought the tri-school tournement was more frequent than it is. Scratch that bit. But she will still be regularly at Slytherin matches to cheer on the team. And hanging out with the captain. Looking at his bio, the charming intelligent older sports captain who she has been cheering on for three years could easily be the boy that made her shy. Is there many Slytherin quidditch players?

@"daffodil potts" - I look forward to the slightly un-comitted interaction with Vee in her herbology classes. Wasting time to put on gloves when the other kids are knuckle deep in mud and other stuff like that.

I have a few people, but the most likely to have an opportunity to interact with her--Lucy Tatting is a second year, but she's a fashion designer in the making, and she would probably love talking fashion with someone else and having new sources of inspiration. I also have Charles Whymper who's in the year ahead of her, and also very awkward. XD Idk what they'd do, buuuut.

I also have Fiona Little should she find herself in need of the nurse!

There are currently only two Slytherin players and the other is a fourth year girl. Tryouts are being held for more so there will be more soon xD. Leander can definitely be the boy that made her shy. <3

For sure to all of that! Violetta probably helped with Victoria's fluency in French as well, as I don't think she was at fluency as a thirteen-year-old, but she was pretty close. Just a couple potentially-embarrassing word mix-ups here and there.

Oh, I've just thought of Josephine. I have a French veela who lives in Hogsmeade! Violetta could run into her in town on a Hogsmeade weekend sometime!

And though Violetta probably won't find much in the way of dirt under her fingernails, Millie would tolerate the ritual most days.

Henry Berkwood - I suspect Violetta and Lucy Tatting then would have had regular interactions in the common room when she does her "unboxing" of new garments from france. Are you happy with them considering each other friends. I've put "she's allowed to touch my clothes"

Hi~ I have Greta Gillenwater who........ is interested in nothing on that list whoops. Greta dreams of being a career woman and earning her own money since husbands can die and leave you practically in the lurch. She is going to be playing Quidditch as Gryffindors Seeker this year because her current dream is to help her stepsister win the Quidditch cup, especially after the previous seeker and her sisters BFF died over summer break. She is a nosey, curious teachers pet type...

I also have Morgan Valenduris who is a first year Slytherin and whose sister made the Opening Feast rather noisy after she yelled at the hat for putting her Ravenclaw and not Hufflepuff. Her father is the Slytherin HOH and Potions Master.
