Welcome to Charming, where swirling petticoats, the language of flowers, and old-fashioned duels are only the beginning of what is lying underneath…
After a magical attempt on her life in 1877, Queen Victoria launched a crusade against magic that, while tidied up by the Ministry of Magic, saw the Wizarding community exiled to Hogsmeade, previously little more than a crossroad near the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the years that have passed since, Hogsmeade has suffered plagues, fires, and Victorian hypocrisy but is still standing firm.
Thethe year is now 1894. It’s time to join us and immerse yourself in scandal and drama interlaced with magic both light and dark.
Two students from the same house - his house - against each other. The auror had a feeling it would be an interesting duel. Once he went through the rules, Ben gestured to Miss Scrimgeour. "If you'd like to start us off, Miss Scrimgeour!"
Holly liked Elijah Urquart, if only because he was just as unlikable as she was. She didn't feel that little pang of annoyance that she felt towards the boys and girls who tried their hardest to make everyone like them, nor was he so annoying that he got on her nerves. She'd never cared about he felt towards her, but today she hoped he would leave the duel hating her a little more.
When given the cue to go ahead, Holly attempted a spell that would make him dance in place. Like a monkey.
Elijah's observance of the pleasantries was entirely perfunctory. Oh, he would not actively harm or emotionally traumatize Miss Scrimgeour—he owed her that much not as a young lady, but as a fellow Slytherin from a good family. He would not, however, go remotely easy on her, as the thought of being beaten by a girl was too much for his pride to bear.
Still not quite willing to play it safe, however, the spell that would leave Elijah's wand was a non-verbal shield charm. He was head boy, after all—why not show off?
While impressively cast, Mr. Urquart's spell ultimately was not enough for his counterpart's hex. It broke through the shield charm and hit him square in the chest. "Well done, Miss Scrimgeour, this point goes to you," Ben announced as the Head Boy was put to rights. "Mr. Urquart, please begin our next round when you are ready!"
Holly tilted her head and quirked a brow in challenge, a smile tugging at the corner of her lips. She raised her wand and attempted to stun Mr. Urquart.
Two very simple spells. But in the end one had to win out, and Ben watched as Miss Scrimgeour's wand pinged out of her hand like a bar of soap. "This next point to Mr. Urquart!" Ben announced before motioning to Miss Scrimgeour to begin the tiebreaker.
Mr. Urquart's charm worked a treat — his opponent's charm bounced off his shield with a 'ping' and this round was over. "Mr. Urquart advances to the next round!"
