Felix,

I write you only because I know sharing this in person would give you far too much delight at my expense. The next time I see you, I hope you have mastered your initial amusement at my ridiculous act. As you discovered my ridiculous devotion to a certain Mr. Crouch this past summer, you are the only person to whom I will disclose my blunder. I wrote an anonymous owl to express my infatuation.

I wrote an anonymous love letter to Mr. Aldous Crouch.

No, I don't know what came over me.
No, he hasn't returned the letter.
Felix, I don't know what to do or how I approach such insanity.

What have I done?

Angelica

Felix,

I wrote him again. I wrote him again like some pathetic debutante that pursues a man. I do not pursue men; men pursue me. Obliviate me. Take every inkwell and quill in my possession. I cannot be trusted to keep my riciculous fancies to myself.

How? How is this possible?

Angelica

My dear Angelique,

For the sake of our friendship and because of the fair share of foolish endeavors you have observed of me over the years I shall refrain from gloating.

I must admit I think the solution rather obvious. Do you not think that Mr. Crouch would pursue you if you were to encounter him in person? How can one be chased over letters for their superior nature if they do not allow themselves to be? If your infatuation is as strong as you say I urge you to meet him in person and allow enough of a hint of your affections to be revieled that he might pursue you and not the other way around.

Why you have chosen him, I cannot fathom, but you know I care only for your own happiness in such matters. Do let me know how your endeavor goes.

Fondly,
Felix

Felix,

I must thank you for your sense of humor. I have not laughed like this in some time. The image of Aldous Crouch in pursuit of me, truly any woman, is the height of comedic invention. I admit such a thought holds a place in my fancies, but to imagine such a thing in the world of the living and breathing seems impossible. For the sake of my sanity, I fear it must remain such.

I cannot believe I am admitting weakness in such a thing (but if not to you, it will never be acknowledged), but I do not know what I would do if the meeting went poorly. I remember heartbreak and even if it was just the death of a silly fantasy, I cannot bear the feeling again.

His appeal is perfectly obvious! I understand, my Pretty Prewett, how you must find that threatening. He is a bit taller than you are and I do know how men can be about their height.

Yours, you poor man,

Angelica

My dear Angelique,

You are right, the most imminent Mr. Crouch is most certainly not the type to pursue a lady. However, you are such a lady as to prove that he can be pursued. I hardly doubt when faced with your own vibrancy that he would think anything less than the highest of you.

I know you worry over your heart, I worry over it too mon chéri. My offer, as always, stands. Although I know you would not be content, I can not help but remind you that it might protect you from the very heart ache you worry about.

A man's height, as I understand it, is of the utmost importance to women as well, as I have been led to believe. Or perhaps they care much more about the size of one's hands?

Yours,
Felix

My Felix,

I believe you have made a very good point in favor of blackmailing some influencal matron and leaving such work to her. I am as like to burn him as to dazzle him, I fear. My last true attempt at wooing the man culminated in hearing my credentials and him asking if I sought employment. Not the intended result.

You are too good to me still. You have been kinder to my heart more often than I am. There are days more days of late when I do think of your offer. Often, but it is not just my happiness and future that would impact. Felix, your heart is not immune to feeling. Have you considered (again) what such a thing would do to your heart?

Not nearly as important as how good said hands are at taking direction. I would assume that factor universal, but who am I to speak on behalf of your rather interesting sex?

Your Angelique
