It was an admission that he wouldn’t mind any rumours that occurred from him playing with a young lady.

“A proper gentleman wouldn’t, aren’t you one?” She asked sternly and distanced herself from him more, arms crossed.

"Of course," Emrys said with a smirk, unfazed by her shift in tone. If she was disappointed in him, that was fine. It was sort of cute, but pointless. She had no power in this relationship, or in society at large, so what did it matter whether she felt he was honorable or not?

"Whatever could have given you the idea I wasn't?" he teased lightly, adjusting his own gloves. He had his shoulder towards her, not his front, signalling with his body language that he was only half-invested in this conversation since they'd stopped touching.

Mr. Selwyn didn’t act like a proper gentleman should, with his bold words and his touches. Yet, Minty didn’t have the strength to call him out on his behaviour. She had internalised her mother’s style of communication, which was meek and non confrontational.

The best she could say was: “You are certainly no monk, Mr. Selwyn.”

Emrys chuckled at her assessment. No, certainly no monk. "Not religious enough for it," he responded with a good-natured grin. "Though some of them do make very good drinks." There were whole monasteries dedicated to producing beer or wine or spirits, which was a bit of a strange mix. Emrys supposed if he was living in seclusion and had nothing else to do with his time, though, he would be good at whatever was left to him too. What would be the point of being a monk if they didn't even have any quality product to show for their efforts at the end of the day?

"Anyway. Another time, Miss Scrimgeour," he said by way of farewell. "I hope you find your glove."
